Cape Verdean Local Elections, 2012
Local elections were held in Cape Verde on 1 and 22 July 2012. Results Overall, of the 22 municipalities, the Movement for Democracy (MpD) won in 14 and the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV) won in 8. The MpD won two more than in the last elections and the PAICV lost two. The MpD won 47% of the votes and the PAICV won 40,3% of the votes. The abstention was 34%, up from 19,4% in the last local elections. The MpD won in Boa Vista, Brava, Maio, Paul, Praia, Santa Catarina, São Miguel, São Domingos, São Vicente, Tarrafal and Tarrafal de São Nicolau. The PAICV won in Mosteiros, Porto Novo, Ribeira Brava, Santa Cruz, São Filipe, São Lourenço dos Órgãos, São Salvador do Mundo. Overall results Municipal (câmara) results The final results are: ...

Sal (Portuguese for "salt") is an island in Cape Verde. Sal is a tourist destination with white sandy beaches and over 350 days of sunshine a year. It is one of the three sandy eastern islands of the Cape Verde archipelago in the central Atlantic Ocean, off the west coast of Africa. José Ulisses Correia E Silva
José Ulisses de Pina Correia e Silva () (born 4 June 1962) is a Cape Verdean businessman and politician who has been Prime Minister of Cape Verde since 22 April 2016. He took office after his party, the Movement for Democracy, won the 20 March 2016 parliamentary election. Early life and education In 1988, Silva graduated from the School of Economics and Business Management at the Technical University of Lisbon. Early career Silva started his career in the banking sector. He was the director of administration at the Bank of Cape Verde from 1989 to 1994. He also taught at the Jean Piaget University of Cape Verde. Political career Silva served in the government of Cape Verde as Secretary of State for Finance from 1995 to 1998 and Minister of Finance from 1999 to 2001. Santa Cruz is a ''concelho'' (municipality) of Cape Verde. It is situated in the eastern part of the island of Santiago. Its seat is the city Pedra Badejo. Its population was 26,617 at the 2010 census, and its area is 112.2 km2. Economy Its economy is based in agriculture, in which rural population produces agricultural commodities for export to larger markets in Praia, Assomada and Fogo. Small market centers exist in São Lourenço dos Órgãos and Pedra Badejo, which act primary as commodity exchanges where subsistence farmers exchange goods as available with merchants who transport and sell goods in larger markets.
