Cape Town City Football Club was an association football club based in Cape Town, South Africa. The club competed in the National Football League (NFL) from 1962 until the league was dissolved in 1977. Hartleyvale Stadium
Hartleyvale Stadium is a field hockey stadium in Observatory, Cape Town, South Africa. It was previously used as a soccer stadium by Cape Town City in the National Football League era, as well as by Hellenic during the late 1980s. It is currently a hockey stadium, with smaller fields nearby still used for soccer by local amateur club sides. In 1996 the Hartleyvale Stadium was upgraded at a cost of 20 million rand. The designed was by ACG Architects in association with GAPP Architects as a regional and national sporting facility to boost South Africa's bid to host the 2004 Olympics. The complex was awarded the SAIA Award of Merit in 1996 and the SAIA Award of Excellence in 2008. The facility is now run by the City of Cape Town and has an offering two astroturf sports fields and seating for 1 700 people in the hockey section. Frank Lord
Frank Lord (13 March 1936 – June 2005) was an English footballer who played as a centre forward. He made 354 appearances in the English Football League for Rochdale, Crewe Alexandra, Plymouth Argyle, Stockport County, Blackburn Rovers and Chesterfield, and scored 172 goals. Life and career Lord was born in Chadderton, near Oldham, Lancashire. He began his career with Rochdale, where he scored 54 goals in 122 league games during eight seasons with the club. His goal-ratio improved with Crewe Alexandra, who he joined in 1961. Lord spent a little over two seasons with Crewe and scored 68 league goals in 108 appearances; in total, he made 117 appearances, scoring 73 times. He scored four hat-tricks in 1961–62 and eight in total to set a new club record. He signed with Plymouth Argyle in November 1963 and was the club's leading goalscorer in his first season. The National Football League (NFL) was the first professional association football league in South Africa, established in 1959. At first the NFL received stiff opposition from the SAFA, the amateur governing body which controlled the major football grounds in the county. The SAFA was a member of FIFA at the time. Initially, only two areas of South Africa were represented - Transvaal and Durban - but gradually the league became more geographically representative. The teams that joined the league in 1959 were-Transvaal (9 teams)-Rangers, Germiston Callies, Arcadia Shepherds, Benoni United, Randfontein, Pretoria City, Brakpan United, Johannesburg City & Southern Park.
