Gascon (; , ) is the name of the vernacular Romance variety spoken mainly in the region of Gascony, France. Joan Capdevila Méndez (; born 3 February 1978) is a Spanish former professional footballer who played as a left back. Over 15 seasons in La Liga, he amassed totals of 410 matches and 36 goals, mainly for Deportivo and Villarreal. Juana Capdevielle
Juana Capdevielle (12 August 1905 – 18 August 1936) was a Spanish educator and librarian. Biography Juana Capdevielle was born in Madrid and went to Pamplona to study at a high school. She moved back to Madrid in order to pursue a university education and later travelled to France, Germany, Switzerland and Belgium. After she married Francisco Pérez Carballo, governor of La Coruña, she moved to Galicia. Her husband was arrested and shot by the rebel military in July 1936 at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War. Shortly thereafter, on 18 August, she was arrested by the Guardia Civil. On the following morning her body was found in Rábade; she had been raped and subsequently killed. Juana was pregnant at the time of her murder. Pierre Capdevielle (1 February 1906 – 9 July 1969) was a French conductor, composer, and music critic. In 1938 he was awarded the Prix Blumenthal and in 1948 he founded the Centre de documentation de musique internationale. For many years he was President of France's chapter of the International Society for Contemporary Music. He also served on the music council of UNESCO. In 1961 he was made a Chevalier of the Order of the Légion d'honneur. Life and career Born in Paris, Capdevielle studied at the Conservatoire de Paris from 1924 to 1926. While there he was a pupil of Armand Ferté (piano), André Gedalge ( counterpoint and fugue), Isidor Philipp (piano), and Paul Vidal (composition). Paul Capdevielle (January 15, 1842 – August 14, 1922) was mayor of New Orleans, Louisiana, from May 9, 1900, to December 5, 1904. Biography Of French descent, he was educated at the Jesuit College of New Orleans, graduating in 1861. He served in the Confederate Army in the American Civil War, in the New Orleans Guard Regiment of Infantry, then in Boone's Louisiana Artillery. He was captured at Port Hudson, Louisiana in July, 1863. Paroled shortly afterward, and subsequently exchanged, he entered Legardeur's artillery battery, and continued in the Confederate service till the close of the war, when he surrendered at Greensboro, North Carolina, returning to New Orleans on foot. He read law at the Tulane University Law School, graduating in 1868, and served as an attorney until 1892. Louis Antoine Capdevielle (9 May 1849, Lourdes - 27 July 1905, Lourdes) was a French genre painter. Biography His father was a slate quarrier. He showed an early talent for drawing and took lessons from a local artist named Couthouly before enrolling at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in 1868, with financial assistance from a local magistrate (coincidentally also named Capdevielle, although not related) and a subsidy from the Lourdes Municipal Council. His primary instructor there was the painter and sculptor, Aimé Millet. In 1870, absorbed in his studies, he neglected to present himself for the sortition at the beginning of the Franco-Prussian War. As a result, he was arbitrarily assigned to an infantry regiment and served in the Armée de la Loire.
