The Canonical Old Roman Catholic Church is a small Christian denomination founded in the 1960s. Old Catholic Church
The terms Old Catholic Church, Old Catholics, Old-Catholic churches or Old Catholic movement designate "any of the groups of Western Christians who believe themselves to maintain in complete loyalty the doctrine and traditions of the undivided church but who separated from the see of Rome after the First Vatican council of 1869–70". The expression Old Catholic has been used from the 1850s by communions separated from the Roman Catholic Church over certain doctrines, primarily concerned with papal authority and infallibility. Some of these groups, especially in the Netherlands, had already existed long before the term. These churches are not in full communion with the Holy See. George Frankham Shell known as George Gerard Shelley (Sidcup, Kent 1891 – 24 August 1980) was a British linguist, author and translator who travelled in Imperial Russia before and during the Russian Revolution. He became a priest and lived in a community of the Oblates of St. Joseph. He was ordained in March 1950 as a bishop in the Old Roman Catholic Church in Great Britain (ORCCGB). In 1952 he became the third archbishop. Life Brought up as a Roman Catholic, Shelley attended an Italian college near Lake Garda in 1907. Near Venice he was invited by a Russian aristocrat, Countess Bobrinsky, to visit her. He was a graduate of the University of Heidelberg as well as the Major Seminary and Collège Saint-Sulpice in Paris. A vicar general (previously, archdeacon) is the principal deputy of the bishop of a diocese for the exercise of administrative authority and possesses the title of local ordinary. As vicar of the bishop, the vicar general exercises the bishop's Ordinary (church officer), ordinary executive (government), executive power over the entire diocese and, thus, is the highest official in a diocese or other particular church after the diocesan bishop or his equivalent in canon law. The title normally occurs only in Western Christian churches, such as the Latin Church of the Catholic Church and the Anglican Communion.
