Canoeing At The 2016 Summer Olympics – Women's K-2 500 Metres
The women's canoe sprint K-2 500 metres at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro took place between 15 and 16 August at Lagoa Stadium. The medals were presented by Pál Schmitt, IOC member, Hungary and Thomas Konietzko, Board Member of the ICF. Competition format The competition comprised heats, semifinals, and a final round. The top boats from each heat advances to the "A" final, and the remaining boats advance to the semifinals. The top two boats in each semifinal and the next overall best boat advanced to the "A" final, and competed for medals. A placing "B" final was held for the other semifinalists. Ren Wenjun (; born January 15, 1992, in Binzhou, Shandong) is a Chinese sprint canoeist. She won a gold medal, as a member of the Chinese women's kayak four team, at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China, with a time of 1:34.440. This was despite 2010 being the year Ren made her international debut. Ren represented China at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, where she competed in the women's K-4 500 metres, along with her teammates Yu Lamei, Liu Haiping, and Li Zhangli. Lani Belcher (born 10 June 1989) is a British canoeist who previously represented Australia. She competed in the women's K-2 500 metres event at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Belcher won the Gold Medal in the 2017 Canoe Marathon World Championships in South Africa. Biography Belcher was born in Cobram, Victoria, Australia in 1989, and lived in Brisbane. Belcher was a triathlete and a track cyclist before she took up kayaking. She began training at the Australian Institute of Sport's facilities in the Gold Coast. In 2007, Belcher moved to England and trained at a canoe club in Elmbridge. At the end of the following year, Belcher was released by the Australian team, allowing her to represent Great Britain. Alyce Burnett
Alyce Wood (née Burnett, born 11 August 1992) is an Australian canoeist. She competed in the women's K-2 500 metres event at the 2016 Summer Olympics and in the women's K2 500 metres and women's K1 500 metres at the 2020 Summer Olympics. In 2017 she won her maiden World Championship title in the K1 1000m. She has also won a string of World Cup medals. In the Under 23 Category she won two Bronze Medals at the World Championships (2014: K1 500 & 2015: K2 500). At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Wood competed with K-2 partner Alyssa Bull. Alyssa Bull (born 1 December 1995) is an Australian canoeist. She qualified to represent Australia at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Bull was unable to make the final of the women's K-1 500m being knocked out in the semi-final. Bull paired with Alyce Wood in the Women's K-2 500m. They made it to the final and finished fifth.
