Dorney Lake
Dorney Lake (also known as Eton College Rowing Centre, and as Eton Dorney as a 2012 Summer Olympics venue) is a purpose-built rowing lake in England. It is near the village of Dorney, Buckinghamshire, and is around 3 km (2 miles) west of Windsor and Eton, close to the River Thames. The lake is privately owned and financed by Eton College, which spent £17 million developing it. Additional grants, totalling £500,000, were obtained from Sport England, UK Sport, the DCMS and SEEDA in order to build the lake's finish tower. The project was completed in 2006, after 10 years of construction. Carrie Johnson (canoeist)
Carrie Ann Johnson (born January 16, 1984, San Diego, California) is an American sprint canoer who has competed in the individual and team Canoeing events at the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics Career Johnson was coached by Stein Jorgensen and competed in both 200 m and 500 m distances. She trained in San Diego. She was a surprise qualifier for the US team for the Athens Olympics, and was the youngest member of the US's canoeing and kayaking team. At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, she was eliminated in the semifinals of both the K-1 500 m and the K-4 500 m events. Rachel Cawthorn (born 3 November 1988) is a British sprint canoer who has competed since the late 2000s. Cawthorn, representing Great Britain at the London 2012 Olympics, is a double Olympic finalist in the Women's K1 and K4 events. Life and career Cawthorn attended Berkshire College of Agriculture. Aneta Regina Konieczna née Pastuszka (born 11 May 1978, in Krosno Odrzańskie) is a Polish sprint canoer who has competed since the mid-1990s. Teresa do Rosário Afonso Portela (born 30 October 1987) is a Portuguese sprint canoer who has competed since the late 2000s. She won a bronze medal in the K-4 200 m event at the 2009 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Dartmouth. At club level, she competes for S.L. Benfica. Portela also competed in the K-1 500 m event at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, but she was eliminated in the semifinals. In 2010, Portela won the gold in the K1 200m World Cup at Szeged, Hungary. Josefa Idem married Guerrini (born 23 September 1964) is an Italian sprint canoer turned politician. Competing in eight Summer Olympics, she has five medals. Winning 35 international medals during her career, Idem was the first Italian woman to win World Championships (22 total, five gold) and Olympic medals in canoe sprint. At the 2009 world championships, she became the oldest medalist in the history of the world championships. After her retirement, she was elected in 2013 as member of the Italian Parliament for the Democratic Party, and successively named Minister for Equal Opportunities, Sport and Youth Policies as part of the cabinet of Enrico Letta. On 24 June 2013, she resigned from the charge because of judicial investigation on allegedly unpaid taxes.
