Canoeing At The 2004 Summer Olympics – Men's C-2 500 Metres
These are the results of the men's C-2 500 metres competition in canoeing at the 2004 Summer Olympics. The C-2 event is raced by two-man sprint canoes. Medalists Heats The 14 teams first raced in two heats on August 24. The top three finishers from each of the heats advanced directly to the final, and the remaining 8 teams moved on to the semifinal. Semifinal The top three finishers in the semifinal (raced on August 26) advanced to the final, joining the six teams who had moved directly from the heats. All other teams were eliminated. Final The final was held on August 28. Canoeing At The 2004 Summer Olympics
Canoeing at the 2004 Summer Olympics was held at the Schinias Olympic Rowing and Canoeing Centre for the sprint events and the Olympic Canoe/Kayak Slalom Centre at the Helliniko Olympic Complex for the canoe and kayak slalom disciplines. A total of 16 events were contested, 12 sprint events (9 for men and 3 for women) and 4 slalom events (3 for men and 1 for women). György Kozmann
György Kozmann (born March 23, 1978 in Szekszárd) is a Hungarian sprint canoeist who competed since the late 1990s. Competing in two Summer Olympics, he won two bronze medals in the C-2 1000 m event, earning them in 2004 and 2008. He has also won eleven medals at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships with five golds (C-2 500 m: 2007, C-2 1000 m: 2006, C-4 200 m: 2001, 2003, C-4 1000 m: 2001), two silvers (C-2 500 m: 2005, C-4 500 m: 2001), and four bronzes (C-2 500 m: 2006, C-2 1000 m: 2003, 2005; C-4 1000 m: 1999). From 2003 until 2008, he was the C-2 partner of György Kolonics. Aliaksandr Viktaravich Bahdanovich ( be, Аляксандр Віктаравіч Багдановіч, born 29 April 1982) is a Belarusian sprint canoeist. Competing in three Summer Olympics, he won a gold medal in the C-2 1000 m event at Beijing in 2008 together with Andrei Bahdanovich. They won silver in the same event in London. Florin Popescu
Florin Popescu (born 30 August 1974 in Iancu Jianu, Olt) is a Romanian sprint canoer who competed from the mid-1990s to 2005. Competing in two Summer Olympics, he won two Olympic medals at Sydney in 2000 with teammate Mitică Pricop (gold: C-2 1000 m, bronze: C-2 500 m). He won a total of seven world championship gold medals (and nineteen total) as well as seven European championship golds, making him the most successful Romanian paddler of modern times. Injury forced Popescu to retire at the end of the 2005 season after winning his seventh world title (C-4 500 m) at the World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia. Silviu Simioncencu
Silviu Simioncencu (born December 13, 1975, in Crişan, Tulcea) is a Romanian sprint canoer and three-time world champion in the Canadian canoe events. He won his first major title at the European championships in 2002, winning the C2 1000m final with Florin Popescu. In 2003 they became world champions at Gainesville, USA. Simioncencu was also a member of Romania's C-4 500 m crew which crossed the line second but was later awarded the gold medal after Russian Sergey Ulegin failed a doping test. A fourth-place finish in the C-4 200 m was also upgraded to bronze for the same reason. In 2004 Simioncencu also won a C-4 500 m gold medal at the European championships, this time without the aid of disqualifications.
