Canning Bridge Railway Station
Canning Bridge railway station is a railway station on the Transperth network. It is located on the Mandurah line, four kilometres from Perth station inside the median strip of the Kwinana Freeway located adjacent to the suburb of Como. History The station was originally constructed as the Canning Bridge bus station, with bus platforms at the Kwinana Freeway and Canning Highway levels, enabling transfer between bus services on those two roads. The bus station opened on 11 February 2002, and cost $34 million. The contract for the construction of Canning Bridge railway station, along with Bull Creek railway station and Murdoch railway station, was awarded to John Holland Pty Ltd in November 2004. This contract was the first contract awarded for the construction of stations on the Southern Suburbs Railway project, and it had a value of $32 million. Kwinana Freeway
The Kwinana Freeway is a freeway in and beyond the southern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia, linking central Perth with Mandurah to the south. It is the central section of State Route 2, which continues north as Mitchell Freeway to Clarkson, and south as Forrest Highway towards Bunbury. A section between Canning and Leach highways is also part of National Route 1. Along its route are interchanges with several major roads, including Roe Highway and Mandjoogoordap Drive. The northern terminus of the Kwinana Freeway is at the Narrows Bridge, which crosses the Swan River, and the southern terminus is at Pinjarra Road, east of Mandurah. Planning for the Kwinana Freeway began in the 1950s, and the first segment in South Perth was constructed between 1956 and 1959. Elizabeth Quay Bus Station, formerly the Esplanade Busport, is a Transperth bus station, located at the southern edge of the Perth CBD in Western Australia, next to the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre and Elizabeth Quay railway station. It has 35 stands and is served by 55 Transperth routes operated by Path Transit, Swan Transit and Transdev WA. It is also served by South West Coach Lines services. Winthrop is a southern suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Melville. History Winthrop was originally a pine tree plantation owned by the University of Western Australia. The first blocks were sold in the early 1980s. After the first residents moved in, more blocks were sold off in a number of phases. Shortly after the first residents, a convenience store opened for business, which now includes a post office, IGA store and a florist. Soon the Winthrop Primary school and Winthrop village shopping centre were opened. Blocks were so sought after that many people resorted to sleeping near the sales office for up to a week just to secure a position. The name is derived from that of the first Chancellor of the University of Western Australia, Sir John Winthrop Hackett. Hamilton Hill, Western Australia
Hamilton Hill is a suburb of Perth, the capital city of Western Australia, located southwest the central business district. Its local government area is the City of Cockburn. History The earliest known settler at Hamilton Hill was Sydney Smith, the agent of Captain George Robb. Robb arrived in Western Australia in 1830 and took up land south of Fremantle. During the next twelve months Smith was actively engaged in establishing Robb's farm. In a letter dated 27 August 1830, he gives his address as Hamilton Hill. The origin of the name, and whether it was Robb or Smith who did the naming, remains uncertain but the area has been known as such ever since. In 1860 Charles Alexander Manning bought of Robb's land, and six years later built Davilak House for his son Lucius Manning. The house of twelve rooms, was built using convict labour and was owned by the Manning family until they abandoned it in the late 1950s. Lake Coogee is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Cockburn, and named after Lake Coogee, located within the suburb. History In 2019, the City of Cockburn approved a split of the suburb of Munster, Western Australia, Munster, whereby the north-western part of the suburb became the new suburb of Lake Coogee, while another part, in the south-west, was added to the suburb of Henderson, Western Australia, Henderson. Only the eastern part of Munster remained part of the existing suburb. The changes came into effect on 30 March 2020. Prior to being part of the suburb of Munster from 1954, the district had been known as ''South Coogee'' since the 1870s and this earlier name remains in use by older settlers of the area. Fremantle Railway Station
Fremantle railway station is the terminus of Transperth's Fremantle line in Western Australia. History The original Fremantle station opened in Cliff Street on 1 March 1881 as the terminus of the Eastern Railway to Guildford via Perth. As the Eastern Railway was extended its importance grew, becoming an important hub for gold miners arriving in Western Australia via ship and then travelling to the Yilgarn and Eastern Goldfields when the line opened to Kalgoorlie in 1896. In 1907, a new station and marshalling yards were established 300 metres to the north-east on the site of the former Fremantle Railway Workshops to better service the newly constructed Fremantle Harbour. The station was designed by William Dartnall, Chief Engineer of Existing Lines of the Railway Department in 1905. Manning, Western Australia
Manning is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia. History The land was originally purchased by Henry Manning in 1856. He was a bachelor and his land in Perth was administered by his brother Charles Alexander Manning, who arrived in the colony in 1854 and subsequently became mayor of Fremantle. The land was left to his brother's descendants. In 1936/37 167 acres was sold by the family to the Christian Brothers for the construction of Aquinas College. The suburb was subdivided in 1948, initially being named The Manning Estate. Eventually Manning became the official name of the area.
