Candice Azzara
Candice Azzara (born May 18, 1945) is an American character actress. She is the aunt of actress Lana Parrilla. Azzara was born in Brooklyn, the daughter of Josephine (née Bravo) and Samuel Azzara. She was inspired to pursue acting by the film ''La Strada'' and theatre legend Eleonora Duse. She studied with Lee Strasberg and Gene Frankel and soon began appearing off-Broadway and in regional theatres. In the summer of 1965, she appeared as Eve in ''On the First Day'', a one-act play written by David Graeme and directed by Charles Merlis at the 41st Street Playhouse in Manhattan. Billed as Candy Azzara, she made her Broadway debut in ''Lovers and Other Strangers'' in 1968. Additional stage credits include '' Jake's Women'', '' Cactus Flower'', ''Any Wednesday'', ''Barefoot in the Park'', and ''The Moon Is Blue''. ''The Moon Is Blue'' is a play by F. Hugh Herbert. A comedy in three acts, the play consists of one female and three male characters. Performance history ''The Moon Is Blue'' premiered at The Playhouse in Wilmington, Delaware on February 16, 1951 for tryout performances in preparation for the New York stage. This was followed by further tryout performances at the Wilbur Theatre in Boston in early March 1951. The production premiered on Broadway on March 8, 1951 at Henry Miller's Theatre with Barbara Bel Geddes as Patty O'Neill, Donald Cook as David Slater, Barry Nelson as Donald Gresham, and Ralph Dunn as Michael O'Neill. ''Calucci's Department'' is an American television sitcom broadcast by CBS. It premiered on September 14, 1973, and after failing to compete in the ratings against NBC's ''Sanford and Son'', was canceled after the December 28 episode. It was replaced on January 11, 1974 by the 13-week ''Dirty Sally'', a half-hour western starring Jeanette Nolan and Dack Rambo.
