Canadian Open Of Curling
The Canadian Open, is an annual bonspiel, or curling tournament. It is one of the seven Grand Slams and four "majors" on the World Curling Tour, and the only one to use a triple knockout format. A women's event was introduced in the 2014–15 curling season. In 2021, when it was supposed to be held outside of Canada for the first time, it was going to just be called the Open. Camrose, Alberta
Camrose ( ) is a city in central Alberta, Canada that is surrounded by Camrose County. Located along Highway 13 it had its beginnings as a railroad hub. History The area around Camrose was first settled by Europeans around 1900. At that time the nearby settlement of Wetaskiwin was a major centre for pioneers; typically, it was the last stopping-off point before they set out in search of nearby land. The site that was to be Camrose was about a day's journey from Wetaskiwin along the railroad, which made it a popular place on the route of pioneers. Soon businessmen and other settlers arrived to stay. The settlers came primarily from Scandinavian countries, such as Norway and Sweden, and many settlers also came from the United States. Jon Mead
Jonathan Mead (born April 10, 1967 in Regina, Saskatchewan) is a Canadian curler from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Mead played third for Wayne Middaugh's rink (except for provincial playdowns) until the end of the 2009–10 curling season. Beginning in the 2010–11 curling season, he again played third for Jeff Stoughton's Manitoba team. Career Before joining Middaugh, Mead was the longtime third for Jeff Stoughton, whose team he joined prior to the 1999 season. That year, they won the Manitoba provincial championships, the Brier and a silver medal at the World Curling Championships. They would return to the 2000 Brier, and again to the 2006 Brier but would not win again. Richard Hart (curler)
Richard Hart (born October 14, 1968) is a Canadian curler from Pickering, Ontario. He is a Brier and world champion, as well as an Olympic silver medallist. He currently coaches the Mike McEwen rink. Career Hart attended his first Brier in 1995 as an alternate for Ed Werenich. It was his only major tournament experience before winning the 1997 Canadian Olympic trials as the third for the Mike Harris team. At the 1998 Winter Olympics, the team won a silver medal. He left the team in 2000, and joined up with Glenn Howard. Eventually with Howard, Hart would go to another Brier, in 2006 where they lost in the final. The following year, they won the 2007 Tim Hortons Brier and then the 2007 Ford World Men's Curling Championship. Glenn Howard
Glenn William Howard (born July 17, 1962) is a Canadian curler who is one of the most decorated curlers of all time. He has won four world championships, four Briers and 17 Ontario provincial championships, including a record eight straight, from 2006 to 2013. Through 2017, he has played in 218 games at the Brier, more than any other curler in history. He has also won the 2001 TSN Skins Game. Career Juniors Howard lost two straight Ontario Junior Championship finals in 1980 and 1981, skipping a rink out of Midland, Ontario. Don Bartlett
Donald Bartlett (born April 1, 1960) is a Canadian curler who lives in Edmonton, Alberta. Bartlett is best known for his many years playing lead for Kevin Martin. In 1999 Bartlett's home town became host the Don Bartlett Curling Classic. Now an annual curling bonspiel, the tournament attracts many teams from across Canada as well as a number of international competitors. Carter Rycroft (born August 29, 1977) is a Canadian curler from Sherwood Park, Alberta. He was a member of the Canadian Olympic team, skipped by Kevin Martin, that won a silver medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics. Career Rycroft joined the Martin rink in 1999 after skipping Team Alberta at the 1998 Canadian Junior Curling Championships and playing for Randy Ferbey. Donald J. Walchuk (born March 6, 1963 in Melville, Saskatchewan) is a Canadian curling, curler from Edmonton, Alberta. For many years Walchuk played third for Kevin Martin (curler), Kevin Martin's team. On Martin's rink, Walchuk was known especially for his "high heat" - his big-weight takeout shots.
