Canadian Masters (golf)
The Canadian Masters was a golf tournament on the Canadian Tour between 1994 and 1999. It was held at Heron Point Golf Links in Ancaster, Ontario, Canada. The tournament founded with the intention of developing it into a Canadian dollar, C$0.5 million event within five years. The prize fund quickly increased, from C$100,000 in the first year to C$200,000 in the second and C$250,000 the third and fourth, making it the richest on tour. However, while it remained the joint richest event on the Canadian Tour, prize money dropped back down to C$200,000 in 1998 and 1999, the final time it was held. The winner of the Canadian Masters was awarded the George Knudson Memorial Trophy, named in memory of one of Canada's most successful professional golfers. Ancaster is a historic town in the city of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, located on the Niagara Escarpment. Canadian Tour
PGA Tour Canada, commonly referred to as the Canadian Tour, is a men's professional golf tour headquartered in Toronto, Ontario. The United States based PGA Tour took over operation of the tour on November 1, 2012, at which time it was renamed PGA Tour Canada. In 2015, Mackenzie Investments became the umbrella sponsor of the tour, branding it as the Mackenzie Tour – PGA Tour Canada. Stroke Play
Stroke play, also known as medal play, is a scoring system in the sport of golf in which the total number of strokes is counted over one or more rounds of 18 holes. In stroke play, the winner is the player who has taken the fewest strokes over the course of the round, or rounds. Although most professional tournaments are played using the stroke play scoring system, some notable exceptions exist. In match play, the player, or team, earns a point for each hole in which they have bested their opponents. Match play scoring is used in the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, the Volvo World Match Play Championship, and most team events, for example the Ryder Cup. Mike Weir
Michael Richard Weir, (born May 12, 1970) is a Canadian professional golfer. He currently plays on the PGA Tour Champions. He spent over 110 weeks in the top-10 of the Official World Golf Ranking between 2001 and 2005. He plays golf left-handed and is best known for winning the Masters Tournament in 2003, making him the only Canadian man to ever win a major. Golf
Golf is a club-and-ball sport in which players use various clubs to hit balls into a series of holes on a course in as few strokes as possible. Golf, unlike most ball games, cannot and does not use a standardized playing area, and coping with the varied terrains encountered on different courses is a key part of the game. George Knudson
George Alfred Christian Knudson, CM (June 28, 1937 – January 24, 1989) was a Canadian professional golfer, who along with Mike Weir holds the record for the Canadian with the most wins on the PGA Tour, with eight career victories. Early life and career Born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Knudson learned to play golf at the St. Charles Country Club. He won the 1954 and 1955 Manitoba Junior Championships, and the 1955 Canadian Junior Championship. He moved to Toronto in 1958, and worked at the Oakdale Golf Club, where he received instruction and encouragement from the Club, to improve his game. He was then able to secure some financial backing to try the PGA Tour. He won the Manitoba Open in 1958, 1959, and 1960, and the Ontario Open in 1960, 1961, 1971, 1976 and 1978. Mike Grob
Mike Grob (born May 6, 1964) is an American professional golfer. He attended the University of Arkansas and has been a member of the PGA Tour, Web.com Tour, and Canadian Tour. Amateur career Grob won the Montana Amateur in 1983, 1984, and 1985. Web.com Tour Grob spent 1999–2001 on what is now known as the Web.com Tour (then known as the Nike Tour (1999) and Buy.com Tour (2000–01)). Trevor George Dodds (born 26 September 1959) is a Namibian professional golfer. Dodds was born in Windhoek, South West Africa. He turned pro in 1985. Scott Michael Dunlap (born August 16, 1963) is an American professional golfer who currently plays on the PGA Tour Champions, having previously been a member of the PGA Tour.
