Canadian Interuniversity Sport Men's Basketball Champions
The W. P. McGee Trophy is a national collegiate sports award, presented annually to the winner of the U Sports championship in men's basketball. The trophy is named after W. P. McGee, who served as a teacher and coach at Assumption College, with the trophy itself being donated by the University of Windsor Alumni Association in 1963. The Men's Basketball Final 8 features eight teams and 10 to 11 games played over four days at one site, which rotates year-to-year. The most recent and defending champions are the Carleton Ravens. The Ravens have the most championship wins with 16, taking 10 of the last 11 crowns, and 16 of 19 since its first title. The 2021 championship tournaments were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Saint Mary's Huskies
The Saint Mary's Huskies are the men's and women's athletic teams that represent Saint Mary's University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Their primary home turf is Huskies Stadium located in the centre of the University's campus. In September 2007, Saint Mary's announced the plans to build the new Homburg Centre for Health & Wellness that will comprise the current gymnasium (The Tower), the new Dauphinee Arena, and a new building to connect the two. The centre is to be named after Richard Homburg, who provided a $5 million gift to the project, the largest gift the university had received in its 205-year history. The Dauphinee Arena, completed in 2019, has an NHL-sized ice surface and a seating capacity for 875. The Calgary Dinos are the athletic teams that represent the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada. They were known as the "Dinosaurs" but usually referred to as the "Dinos" until 1999, when the name was officially shortened. The Windsor Lancers are the varsity athletic teams that represent the University of Windsor in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The school's varsity program supports 9 different sports. 2016 CIS Men's Basketball Championship
The 2016 CIS Men's Final 8 Basketball Tournament was held March 17–20, 2016 in Vancouver, British Columbia., hosted by the University of British Columbia at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre. This was the second time UBC hosted, and the third time the tournament was played in B.C. In dynastic fashion, the Carleton Ravens won their sixth straight title, their 12th in 14 years, this time over the Calgary Dinos. The Ryerson Rams, ranked number one in the country going into the tournament (a first in any sport for the school), took the bronze medal over the Dalhousie Tigers in a second consecutive third-place finish. Carleton set a record with the win, earning the most national championships in men's basketball than any top division college in Canada or the United States.
