Canadian Ice Service
The Canadian Ice Service (CIS) is a division of the Meteorological Service of Canada (MSC), and a branch of Canada's Department of the Environment. The CIS is the leading authority for information about ice in Canada's navigable waters. Ice affects marine transportation in Canada's heartland as well as in the North, commercial fishing, offshore resource development, the hunting and fishing patterns of aboriginal peoples, tourism and recreation, and local weather patterns and long-term climate. Mandate The agency's mission is to provide the most timely and accurate information possible about ice in Canada's navigable waters. Meteorological Service Of Canada
The Meteorological Service of Canada (MSC; french: Service météorologique du Canada – SMC) is a division of Environment and Climate Change Canada, which primarily provides public meteorological information and weather forecasts and warnings of severe weather and other environmental hazards. International Ice Patrol
The International Ice Patrol is an organization with the purpose of monitoring the presence of icebergs in the Atlantic and Arctic Oceans and reporting their movements for safety purposes. It is operated by United States Coast Guard but is funded by the 13 nations interested in trans-Atlantic navigation. As of 2011 the governments contributing to the International Ice Patrol include Belgium, Canada (see Canadian Ice Service), Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Panama, Poland, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the United States. National Ice Center
The National Ice Center (NIC) is a tri-agency operational center whose mission is to provide worldwide navigational ice analyses for the armed forces of the United States, allied nations, and U.S. government agencies. It is represented by the United States Navy (Department of Defense); the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration ( Department of Commerce); and the United States Coast Guard (Department of Homeland Security). The National Ice Center is a subordinate command of the Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO).
