Canada–Cuba Relations
Canada–Cuba relations are the bilateral relations between Canada and Cuba. Informal trade relations between the colonies of Atlantic Canada and the Captaincy General of Cuba have existed since the 18th century. The informal trading relationship between Canada and Cuba continued into the 20th century, with diplomatic relations formally established between the two countries in 1945. Diplomatic relations between the two countries remain uninterrupted since their establishment in 1945, with Canada being one of only two countries in the Americas that did not sever relations with Cuba (other than Mexico) after the Cuban Revolution in 1959. Relations between Canada and Cuba have occasionally been a source of contention for Canada-United States relations. Embassy Of Cuba, Ottawa
The Embassy of Cuba in Ottawa is the Cuban embassy in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It is located at 388 Main Street in Old Ottawa East. History Diplomatic relations between Canada and Cuba began in 1945, and were uninterrupted by the Cuban Revolution. The Cuban embassy was initially located at 690 Island Park Drive and subsequently relocated to Chapel Street in Sandy Hill. For many years the Chapel Street location was the target of repeated terrorist attacks by anti-Castro groups based in the United States. The first of these was an improvised bomb made out of bazooka shells that went off on September 22, 1966. It caused only minor damage to the embassy. The bomb blew out the embassy's windows, and those of many nearby homes and made a crater in the sidewalk. John Diefenbaker
John George Diefenbaker ( ; September 18, 1895 – August 16, 1979) was the 13th prime minister of Canada, serving from 1957 to 1963. He was the only Progressive Conservative party leader between 1930 and 1979 to lead the party to an election victory, doing so three times, although only once with a majority of the seats in the House of Commons. Diefenbaker was born in southwestern Ontario in the small town of Neustadt in 1895. In 1903, his family migrated west to the portion of the North-West Territories which would soon become the province of Saskatchewan. He grew up in the province and was interested in politics from a young age. After service in World War I, Diefenbaker became a noted criminal defence lawyer. Fulgencio Batista y Zaldívar (; ; born Rubén Zaldívar, January 16, 1901 – August 6, 1973) was a Cuban military officer and politician who served as the elected president of Cuba from 1940 to 1944 and as its U.S.-backed military dictator from 1952 to 1959, when he was overthrown by the Cuban Revolution. Batista initially rose to power as part of the 1933 Revolt of the Sergeants, which overthrew the provisional government of Carlos Manuel de Céspedes y Quesada. Batista then appointed himself chief of the armed forces, with the rank of colonel, and effectively controlled the five-member "pentarchy" that functioned as the collective head of state. Sugarcane or sugar cane is a species of (often hybrid) tall, perennial grass (in the genus ''Saccharum'', tribe Andropogoneae) that is used for sugar production.
