Canada After Dark
''Canada After Dark'' was Canada's first late-night comedy/variety talk show. It was hosted by Paul Soles and aired on CBC Television from September 18, 1978, to January 26, 1979. The show was repackaged from the failed, more informational ''90 Minutes Live''. Executive producer Alex Frame and producer Bob Ennis decided to try a show that would be comparable to '' The Tonight Show'' instead, changing the name of the show to ''Canada After Dark'' and replacing host Peter Gzowski with veteran comedic actor Soles. The new show would last for less than half a season. Paul Soles
Paul Robert Soles (August 11, 1930 – May 26, 2021) was a Canadian actor and television personality. He led the voice cast in such series as ''The Marvel Super Heroes'' (1966), voiced the title character in '' Spider-Man'' (1967), and portrayed Hermey in the 1964 television special ''Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer''; Soles was one of the last surviving participants of the special's voice cast. Soles first screen appearance was on CFPL in 1953, and he continued to perform over 60 years later, performing as of 2016 in the comedy web series '' My 90-Year-Old Roommate'' on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's online comedy channel, CBC Comedy. ''90 Minutes Live'' was a Canadian television late-night talk show, which aired on CBC Television from April 19, 1976, to May 12, 1978. The program aired weekday evenings at 11:30 p.m. Hosted by Peter Gzowski, the program was patterned after CBC Radio's ''This Country in the Morning'', with both current affairs and entertainment features. Other personalities associated with the program included Allan Fotheringham, Rick Moranis, Andre Gagnon, Anne Ditchburn, Danny Finkleman, Valri Bromfield, John Harvard and Flo & Eddie. The Tonight Show
''The Tonight Show'' is an American late-night talk show that has aired on NBC since 1954. The show has been hosted by six comedians: Steve Allen (1954–1957), Jack Paar (1957–1962), Johnny Carson (1962–1992), Jay Leno (1992–2009 and 2010–2014), Conan O'Brien (2009–2010), and Jimmy Fallon (2014–present). The Royal Canadian Air Farce
The Royal Canadian Air Farce was a comedy troupe that was active from 1973 to 2019. It is best known for their various Canadian Broadcasting Corporation series, first on CBC Radio and later on CBC Television. Although their weekly radio series ended in 1997 and their television series ended in 2008, the troupe produced annual New Year's Eve specials on CBC Television until 2019. CBC announced that, due to budgetary constraints, the special scheduled to air on December 30, 2019 would be the final in the series. Charles Joseph Clark (born June 5, 1939) is a Canadian statesman, businessman, writer, and politician who served as the 16th prime minister of Canada from 1979 to 1980. Despite his relative inexperience, Clark rose quickly in federal politics, entering the House of Commons in the 1972 election and winning the leadership of the Progressive Conservative Party in 1976. He won a minority government in the 1979 election, defeating the Liberal government of Pierre Trudeau and ending sixteen years of continuous Liberal rule. Taking office the day before his 40th birthday, Clark is the youngest person to become Prime Minister. Don Ferguson (actor)
Don Ferguson (born May 30, 1946) is a Canadian actor, writer, and producer and is one of the stars of the ''Royal Canadian Air Farce''. He and Dave Broadfoot were the only Canadian-born original cast members of ''Air Farce''. In 1998, Ferguson and the original Air Farce cast of Roger Abbott, Luba Goy, and John Morgan received the Governor General's Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement, Canada's highest honour in the performing arts.
