Can (band)
Can (stylised as CAN) was a German experimental rock band formed in Cologne in 1968 by Holger Czukay (bass, tape editing), Irmin Schmidt (keyboards), Michael Karoli (guitar), and Jaki Liebezeit (drums). The group used several vocalists, most prominently the American Malcolm Mooney (1968–70) and the Japanese Damo Suzuki (1970–73). They have been widely hailed as pioneers of the German krautrock scene. Coming from backgrounds in the avant-garde and jazz, Can blended elements of psychedelic rock, funk, and musique concrète on influential albums such as ''Tago Mago'' (1971), ''Ege Bamyasi'' (1972) and ''Future Days'' (1973). Can also had commercial success with singles such as "Spoon" (1971) and " I Want More" (1976) reaching national singles charts. Their work has influenced rock, post-punk, ambient, and electronic acts. History Origins: 1966–1968 The roots of Can can be traced back to Irmin Schmidt and a trip that he made to New York City in 1966. While Schmidt initial ...

Unlimited Edition (album)
''Unlimited Edition'' is a compilation album by the band Can. Released in 1976 as a double album, it was an expanded version of the 1974 LP ''Limited Edition'' on United Artists Records which, as the name suggests, was a limited release of 15,000 copies (tracks 14–19 were added). The album collects unreleased music from throughout the band's history from 1968 until 1976, and both the band's major singers (Damo Suzuki and Malcolm Mooney) are featured. The cover photos were taken among the Elgin Marbles in the Duveen Gallery of the British Museum. Track notes The abbreviation "E.F.S.", appearing in several of the track titles, refers to ''Ethnological Forgery Series'', a series of songs in which Can self-consciously imitated various "world music" genres. "Mother Upduff" is a retelling of an urban legend involving a family whose grandmother dies while they are on holiday together, and whose corpse – left wrapped up on the roof of the family car – is later stolen along w ...

The Lost Tapes (Can Album)
''The Lost Tapes'' is a compilation album of studio outtakes and live recordings by the German experimental rock band Can, which was originally released as an LP in 2012 by Spoon Records in conjunction with Mute Records. The compilation was curated by Irmin Schmidt and Daniel Miller, compiled by Irmin Schmidt and Jono Podmore, and edited by Jono Podmore. When the Can studio in Weilerswist was sold to the German Rock N Pop Museum, they bought everything, including the army mattresses that covered the walls for sound protection, and relocated it to Gronau. Whilst dismantling the studio, master tapes were found and stored in the Spoon archive. With barely legible labeling, no one was sure what was on these until Irmin Schmidt and long time collaborator Jono Podmore started to go through over 30 hours of music. They found years of archived material, not outtakes, but rather tracks which had been shelved for a variety of reasons – soundtracks to films that were never released ...

Agilok & Blubbo
''Agilok & Blubbo'' is the soundtrack album to the 1969 German film of the same name. It is notable in being one of the earliest recordings of the German experimental rock band The Inner Space, who would soon become known under the name Can. Years after the film had fallen into obscurity, its soundtrack was eventually released in Spain in 2009. Along with the band's next soundtrack '' Kamasutra: Vollendung der Liebe'', none of the material would be featured on ''Soundtracks'', a 1970 compilation of songs the band had recorded for various film soundtracks. As a result, the work remains a rarity. The tracks "Kamera Song" (sung by one of the films starring actresses ) and "Agilok and Blubbo" were released together as a single. Track listing Personnel * Irmin Schmidt – Vocals, Flute, Guitar, Music * Jaki Liebezeit – drums * Holger Czukay – bass * (credited as 'Rosy Rosy') – vocals on "Kamerasong" * David C. Johnson David C. Sonic Youth
Sonic Youth was an American rock band based in New York City, formed in 1981. Founding members Thurston Moore (guitar, vocals), Kim Gordon (bass, vocals, guitar) and Lee Ranaldo (guitar, vocals) remained together for the entire history of the band, while Steve Shelley (drums) followed a series of short-term drummers in 1985, rounding out the core line-up. Jim O'Rourke (bass, keyboards, guitar) was also a member of the band from 1999 to 2005, and Mark Ibold (guitar, bass) was a member from 2006 to 2011. Sonic Youth emerged from the experimental no wave art and music scene in New York before evolving into a more conventional rock band and becoming a prominent member of the American noise rock scene. Sonic Youth have been praised for having "redefined what rock guitar could do" using a wide variety of unorthodox guitar tunings while preparing guitars with objects like drum sticks and screwdrivers to alter the instruments' timbre. The band was a pivotal influence on the alternat ...

Strange Fruit Records
Strange Fruit Records was an independent record label in the United Kingdom. The label, established by Clive Selwood and John Peel in 1986, was the primary distributor of BBC recordings, including Peel Sessions.Larkin, Colin (ed.) (1998) ''The Virgin Encyclopedia of Indie & New Wave'', Virgin Books, The name came from the song written by Abel Meeropol and famously performed by Billie Holiday, itself a reference to racially motivated lynchings. The label had the aim of generating sufficient revenue from recordings of 'big name' artists to allow the release of recordings by lesser-known artists. The label's first release was New Order's 1982 Peel Session, in July 1987, and was followed by sessions from some of the biggest names from the punk rock and post punk eras. Recordings from as far back as the 1960s were also released by the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band. As well as individual sessions, the label also released albums compiling several sessions by t ...

Delay 1968
''Delay 1968'', or just ''Delay'' (as the Super Audio CD, SACD version is titled), is an archival compilation album by German experimental rock band Can (band), Can during its work with singer Malcolm Mooney comprising previously unissued early recordings of the band's rejected debut album, ''Prepared to Meet Thy PNOOM''. The song "Thief" had previously been released officially (in a longer edit) on the United Artists Records, United Artists compilation album ''Electric Rock'' in 1970; it was later covered live by Radiohead. Holger Czukay has said that ''Delay 1968'' was originally intended to be the band's first album, ''Prepared to Meet Thy PNOOM'' ("Pnoom" being the name of the album's second track—a 27-second saxophone instrumental, recorded as part of their ''Ethnological Forgery Series''). When no record company would release the record, Can set out to make a somewhat more accessible album, which became their 1969 debut ''Monster Movie (Can album), Monster Movie''. Parts o ...

United Artists
United Artists Corporation (UA), currently doing business as United Artists Digital Studios, is an American digital production company. Founded in 1919 by D. W. Griffith, Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, and Douglas Fairbanks, the studio was premised on allowing actors to control their own interests, rather than being dependent upon commercial studios. UA was repeatedly bought, sold, and restructured over the ensuing century. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer acquired the studio in 1981 for a reported $350 million ($ billion today). On September 22, 2014, MGM acquired a controlling interest in entertainment companies One Three Media and Lightworkers Media, then merged them to revive United Artists' television production unit as United Artists Media Group (UAMG). However, on December 14 of the following year, MGM wholly acquired UAMG and folded it into MGM Television. United Artists was again revived in 2018 as United Artists Digital Studios. Mirror, the joint distribution ventur ...
