''Silene'' is a genus of flowering plants in the family Caryophyllaceae. Containing nearly 900 species, it is the largest genus in the family. Common names include campion and catchfly. Campion (1989 TV Series)
''Campion'' is a British television mystery drama first broadcast on the BBC on 22 January 1989. Each of the eight stories featured across the two series, broadcast in 1989 and 1990 respectively, are adapted from the Albert Campion mystery novels written by Margery Allingham. The series starred Peter Davison as Albert Campion, Brian Glover as his manservant Magersfontein Lugg and Andrew Burt as his policeman friend Stanislaus Oates. Four novels were adapted for each series, each of which was originally broadcast as two separate hour-long episodes. Davison himself sang the title music for the first series; in the second series, it was replaced with an instrumental version. A Lagonda 16/80 featured extensively in the series. The car used in the series is now kept in Germany. The complete series was released on DVD on 12 May 2008, distributed by Acorn Media UK. Campion Air Force Station (AAC ID: F-08) is a closed United States Air Force General Surveillance Radar station. It is located east-southeast of Galena, Alaska. The Aircraft Control and Warning station was closed on 1 November 1983, and the site was re-designated as a Long Range Radar (LRR) Station. It remains active as part of the Alaska NORAD Region. History Campion Air Force Station (AFS) was a continental defense radar station constructed to provide the United States Air Force early warning of an attack by the Soviet Union on Alaska. It was one of the ten original aircraft control and warning sites constructed during the early 1950s to establish a permanent air defense system in Alaska. The station was named in honor of Lieutenant Alan J. Campion, 449th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, Ladd AFB, who was killed on 26 November 1950 when the Lockheed F-94 Starfire interceptor he was flying crashed while attempting to land at nearby Galena AFB, Alaska. Campion is an Ghost town, abandoned townsite in the Wheatbelt (Western Australia), Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, on the Koorda, Western Australia, Koorda–Bullfinch, Western Australia, Bullfinch Road. The closest locality is Chandler, Western Australia, Chandler and the closest main town is Mukinbudin. Campion was named after Sir William Campion (governor), William Campion, the Governor of Western Australia from 1924 to 1931. Nearby Lake Campion was also named in his honour. The town was established by former soldiers as part of a Soldier settlement (Australia), soldier settlement scheme. A school was built in 1925, and in 1927 a railway siding was constructed. Edmund Campion, SJ (25 January 15401 December 1581) was an English Jesuit priest and martyr. While conducting an underground ministry in officially Anglican England, Campion was arrested by priest hunters. Convicted of high treason, he was hanged, drawn and quartered at Tyburn. Campion was beatified by Pope Leo XIII in 1886 and canonised in 1970 by Pope Paul VI as one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales. His feast day is celebrated on 1 December.
