Calpurnia Elizabeth "Cally" Harper Ewing is a fictional character in the popular American television series ''Dallas'', played by Cathy Podewell from 1988 to 1991. Cally was the second wife of J.R. Ewing. Podewell reprised her role as Cally Harper for J.R.'s funeral episode in the second season of the new ''Dallas'' in 2013. Storylines Cally is a waitress at a hotel in Haleyville, Alabama. J.R. meets her while on a hunting trip with his brother Bobby (Patrick Duffy) and their sons. J.R. gets Cally into bed, but when J.R. is discovered by her crazed brothers, he is arrested and convicted of rape. After Cally's brothers break J.R. out of prison, Cally lies that she is pregnant, and her brothers force J.R. into a shotgun wedding. Catherine Ann Podewell (born January 27, 1964) is an American actress known for playing the role of Cally Harper Ewing on ''Dallas'' from 1988 to 1991, 2013. Early life and education Podewell was born in Evanston, Illinois. She moved to Walnut Creek, California and was raised there by her father, a teacher, and her mother, a real estate agent. Her paternal grandparents, Lester Podewell and Beverly Younger, were also actors. She attended the University of California, Santa Barbara where she studied theater arts and dancing. Sue Ellen Ewing is a fictional character and one of the female leads in the CBS primetime soap opera ''Dallas''. Sue Ellen was portrayed by Linda Gray and appeared on the show since its pilot episode, first broadcast on April 2, 1978.
