California Water Color Society
The National Watercolor Society is a non-profit society which is headed by artists. Its main goal is to improve watercolor painting through trainings and exhibitions. History The National Watercolor Society was established by Dana Bartlett in 1920, who was its first president, as the California Water Color Society. In 1967, the members of the society decided to rename the society as the California National Watercolor Society. In 1975, the society was renamed as the National Watercolor Society. The National Watercolor Society held its first exhibition in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The society used the museum to hold annual exhibitions for 25 years. In 1999, the foundation of the new building for the National Watercolor Society was laid. The building was financed with the support of the members of the society. The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) is an art museum located on Wilshire Boulevard in the Miracle Mile, Los Angeles, California, Miracle Mile vicinity of Los Angeles. LACMA is on Museum Row, adjacent to the La Brea Tar Pits (George C. Page Museum). LACMA was founded in 1961, splitting from the Los Angeles Museum of History, Science and Art. Four years later, it moved to the Wilshire Boulevard complex designed by William Pereira. American Watercolor Society
The American Watercolor Society, founded in 1866, is a nonprofit membership organization devoted to the advancement of watercolor painting in the United States. Qualifications AWS judges the work of a painter before granting admission to the society as an "active" (now "signature") member. Such membership in the society now is considered an indication of the painter having established a consistent style and to have demonstrated considerable skill in the medium. ''Transparency'' in the works of water color painters is highly valued. That is a technique wherein the paper surface is allowed to show through the applied paint as an integral aspect of the painting. The applicant usually must demonstrate a history of winning prizes in juried art shows with professional standing to gain admission. The New England Watercolor Society, originally named the Boston Watercolor Society, is an artist-run organization formed to promote and exhibit work by watercolor painters. It was also at one time known as the Boston Society of Watercolor Painters. It is headquartered in Plymouth, Massachusetts. History Founded as the Boston Watercolor Society, the group held its first exhibition in 1885, showing works by Childe Hassam, George Randolph Barse, and other artists.
