''Calais-Dover'' (french: Calais-Douvres) is a 1931 French-German comedy film directed by Jean Boyer and Anatole Litvak and starring Lilian Harvey, André Roanne and Armand Bernard.Bock & Bergfelder p. 455 It is the French-language version of the German film ''No More Love'', with Harvey reprising her role. The title refers to the Dover–Calais ferry. It incorporated location shooting on the French Riviera with interiors shot at the Babelsberg Studios in Berlin. Anatole Litvak
Anatoly Mikhailovich Litvak (russian: Анатолий Михайлович Литвак; 21 May 1902 – 15 December 1974), better known as Anatole Litvak, was a Ukrainian-born American filmmaker who wrote, directed, and produced films in various countries and languages. He began his theatrical training at age 13 in Petrograd, Russia (now again known as St. Petersburg). Litvak was notable for directing little-known foreign actors to early fame and is believed to have contributed to several actors winning Academy Awards. In 1936 he directed ''Mayerling'', a film which made French actors Charles Boyer and Danielle Darrieux international stars. He returned Swedish star Ingrid Bergman to popularity with American audiences in 1956 with ''Anastasia'', in which she won her second Oscar. He directed Olivia de Havilland to an Academy Award nomination for ''The Snake Pit'' (1948). Irma Von Cube
Irma von Cube (December 26, 1899, Hanover; July 25, 1977) was a German-American screenwriter. She began as an actress and a writer for films in Germany in the early 1930s, and continued when she arrived in the United States in 1938. Among her films is the ''They Shall Have Music'' (1939), '' Johnny Belinda'' (1948), for which she received an Academy Award nomination, and ''Song of Love'' (1947) co-starring Katharine Hepburn, Paul Henreid, and Robert Walker. Arnold Pressburger
Arnold Pressburger (27 August 1885 – 17 February 1951) was an Austrian Jewish film producer who produced more than 70 films between 1913 and 1951. Pressburger was born in Pressburg, Austria-Hungary (now Bratislava, Slovakia) and died in Hamburg, Germany from a stroke. In 1932, he set up the production company Cine-Allianz with Gregor Rabinovitch. The company enjoyed commercial success, but was subsequently expropriated from them by the Nazi government of Germany as part of the Aryanization (Nazism), anti-Jewish policy. Dover–Calais Ferry (MyFerryLink)
MyFerryLink was an English Channel passenger and freight ferry company which began operating between Dover and Calais in August 2012. The MyFerryLink fleet consisted of two modern ferries – sister ships the and the – that carried passengers and freight, and one dedicated freight ship, the . It was formed following the liquidation of SeaFrance. MyFerryLink offered passengers up to sixteen sailings between Dover and Calais every day, and additional services for freight. The ships were leased to a workers' co-operative, Scop SeaFrance, that operated the company's sailings between Britain and France and employed all the on-board staff. Gregor Rabinovitch
Gregor Rabinovitch (2 April 1889–12 November 1953) was a Ukrainian-born film producer who worked for many years in the German film industry. He emigrated to France from the Soviet Union in the early 1920s. After working for a time in Germany, he left following the Nazi takeover of power in 1933, and spent a number of years in France and the United States. He later returned and died in Munich in 1953. In 1932 he set up the production company Cine-Allianz with Arnold Pressburger. The company enjoyed commercial success, but was subsequently expropriated from them by the Nazi government of Germany as part of the anti-Jewish policy.
