Cairo Contemporary Dance Center
Cairo Contemporary Dance Center (CCDC) is an independent space for contemporary dance in Egypt. It’s the first contemporary dance school in Africa and the Middle East, offering a 3-year full-time professional training program for young dancers, choreographers and dance teachers. It also provides artistic residencies, as well as open classes and workshops in different kinds of dance and activities. History Cairo Contemporary Dance Center was founded in 2012 by Karima Mansour, under the patronage of the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, at the Creativity Center on the ground of Cairo Opera House. It moved to its current location in January 2014, and currently operates as an independent project under the umbrella of MAAT for Contemporary Art. Contemporary Dance
Contemporary dance is a genre of dance performance that developed during the mid-twentieth century and has since grown to become one of the dominant genres for formally trained dancers throughout the world, with particularly strong popularity in the U.S. and Europe. Although originally informed by and borrowing from classical, modern, and jazz styles, it has come to incorporate elements from many styles of dance. Due to its technical similarities, it is often perceived to be closely related to modern dance, ballet, and other classical concert dance styles. Downtown Contemporary Arts Festival D-CAF
Downtown Contemporary Arts Festival (D-CAF, ar, مهرجان وسط البلد للفنون المعاصرة-) is Cairo’s largest international multi-disciplinary contemporary arts festival. It takes place over three weeks each spring, since 2012, in multiple sites throughout Cairo’s city center. Tango
Tango is a partner dance and social dance that originated in the 1880s along the Río de la Plata, the natural border between Argentina and Uruguay. The tango was born in the impoverished port areas of these countries as the result of a combination of Rioplatense Candombe celebrations, Spanish-Cuban Habanera, and Argentine Milonga. The tango was frequently practiced in the brothels and bars of ports, where business owners employed bands to entertain their patrons. The tango then spread to the rest of the world. Contact Improvisation
Contact improvisation is a form of improvised partner dancing that has been developing internationally since 1972. It involves the exploration of one's body in relationship to others by using the fundamentals of sharing weight, touch, and movement awareness. It has evolved into a broad global community of social dancing around "jams" characterized by their welcoming attitude towards newcomers to dance, as well as seasoned practitioners, and is often found overlapping with ecstatic dance communities. Claude Brumachon
Claude Brumachon (born 2 May 1959 in Rouen) is a French choreographer and dancer in contemporary dance. In 1984 he founded his own company, the ''Compagnie Claude Brumachon''. Olivier Dubois
Olivier Dubois (born in 1972) is a French contemporary dance choreographer. Early life Dubois was born in 1972 in Colmar. After studying foreign languages at the National Institute of Eastern Languages and Civilizations, law and economics, Dubois decided to become a dancer at age 23. Career Olivier Dubois has performed for Angelin Preljocaj, Cirque du Soleil, Jan Fabre, Dominique Boivin, Sasha Waltz and many others.
