CT Transit
CTtransit (styled as CT ''transit'') is a bus system serving much of the U.S. state of Connecticut and is a division of that state's Department of Transportation. CTtransit provides bus service via contract providers for seven different metropolitan areas in the state, mostly concentrated in Hartford and New Haven counties. CTtransit began operations in 1976. History HNS Management, Inc., is the principal operator of CTtransit service in the greater Hartford, New Haven, and Stamford areas. They are the second largest public transit system in New England with a total fleet of over 400 buses and over 27 million customers served each year. HNS employs nearly 980 bus operators, maintenance employees, and administrative personnel; the company administers an annual operating budget of over $100 million. Hartford, Connecticut
Hartford is the capital city of the U.S. state of Connecticut. It was the seat of Hartford County until Connecticut disbanded county government in 1960. It is the core city in the Greater Hartford metropolitan area. Connecticut Transit Hartford (CTtransit Hartford Division) is the largest division of Connecticut Transit, providing service on 43 local routes, 5 "flyer" limited stop routes and 18 express routes throughout 27 towns in Hartford County, including Bloomfield, East Hartford, Farmington, Glastonbury, Manchester, Middletown, Newington, New Britain, Rocky Hill, South Windsor, West Hartford, Wethersfield and Windsor, in addition to Hartford. Bee-Line Bus System
The Westchester County Bee-Line System, branded on the buses in lowercase as ''the bee-line system'', is a bus system serving Westchester County, New York. The system is owned by the county's Department of Public Works and Transportation. History The system was founded on May 1, 1978, by the then Westchester County Department of Transportation to consolidate the bus system with thirteen private bus companies and has been given control over the buses, fare structure, routes, and services. By the 1980s, the bus system had an identity problem in who was providing the service. On May 19, 1987, WCDOT officially named the bus service "The Bee-Line System" with a 'bee-in-flight' mascot drawn by cartoonist Jack Davis. Connecticut Transit Stamford
Connecticut Transit Stamford (CT Transit Stamford Division) is the division of Connecticut Transit for the Stamford metropolitan area. In Stamford it provides service on 18 routes around Stamford, Connecticut, with routes centered on downtown Stamford and providing local bus service to Norwalk, CT, Greenwich, CT, Darien, CT, Port Chester, NY, and express bus service to White Plains, NY. CT Transit Stamford's service area overlaps that of the Norwalk Transit District in Norwalk and Greenwich, and the Bee Line Bus in Port Chester and White Plains. Northeast Transportation Company
The Northeast Transportation Company is the operator of local bus service in the cities of Waterbury, Naugatuck, Meriden, and Wallingford, operating under contract to Connecticut Transit. Waterbury routes All routes originate from the Waterbury Green (Unless otherwise noted) and operate 365 days a year, including major holidays. Former Routes Naugatuck routes Like its fellow town Bristol, Naugatuck has three local routes that run through the town, returning every 90 minutes. Weekdays only between 9:00 AM & 4:00 PM. Meriden routes In Meriden, five loop routes are operated between 6 AM and 6 PM, weekdays only. Connecticut Post Mall (formerly known as Westfield Connecticut Post) is a shopping mall, located on the Boston Post Road ( Route 1) in Milford, Connecticut. It is currently the largest mall in the state of Connecticut and is partially owned and operated by Centennial Properties. History The original, open-air mall was built by Sol Atlas and opened in 1960, anchored by a W. & J. Sloane furniture store and a Stop & Shop supermarket at opposite ends. In 1962, the sixth branch of the Alexander's department store chain opened. Following an early fire at the west end of the mall, a Caldor discount store was built as the new anchor. In 1981, the mall was enclosed. The mall underwent a renovation in 1990, which added the Skyview Cafe food court, and lost anchor Alexander's. Greater Bridgeport Transportation Authority
Greater Bridgeport Transit (GBT) is a transit service serving the Greater Bridgeport region of the U.S. state of Connecticut. GBT provides local bus service to the cities/towns of Bridgeport, Trumbull, Stratford, Milford, Fairfield, Westport, Shelton, and Monroe. The fleet is composed of mainly New Flyer Xcelsior and New Flyer Low Floor, as well as Gillig Low Floor and two Proterra Catalyst BE40 models. Ticketing GBT uses a system called ZipTrip for fare collection. This acts as any other pass or transfer would, permitting free, unlimited rides in any direction until expiration. It was first introduced in 2007, prior to which payment was made in cash or tokens. Tokens may still be purchased at the GBT hub adjacent to the Bridgeport Metro North Railroad station. Connecticut Transit New Haven is the second largest division of Connecticut Transit, providing service on 24 routes in 19 towns within the Greater New Haven and Lower Naugatuck River Valley areas, with connections to other CT Transit routes in Waterbury and Meriden, as well as connections to systems in Milford and Bridgeport at the Connecticut Post Mall. Windham Region Transit District, or WRTD, is a bus operator for Windham County, with NECTD, SEAT, UConn Transportation Services in neighboring towns. Prior to August 2019, The company operated 4 routes in total, connecting with a small handful of other operators, such as UConn Transportation Services in Mansfield, SEAT in Norwich, and NECTD in Brooklyn, Connecticut. Because of the small collection of routes, they have approximately 10 fixed route buses, with some Paratransit vehicles. Middletown Area Transit, popularly known as MAT, was the provider of public transportation serving Middletown, Connecticut, as well as portions of Cromwell, Durham, East Hampton and Portland.
