CRRC Datong Co. Ltd. () is a Chinese railway locomotive manufacturing plant based in Datong, Shanxi, China, founded 1953. The factory was a major producer of steam locomotives for the Chinese market up to 1988 when production switched to diesel powered locomotives. By the 1990s electric locomotives had begun to be produced, and became the major product of the works. In 2003 the factory became CNR Datong Electric Locomotive Co. Ltd. (DELC) and a subsidiary of China CNR Corporation as part of a re-organisation of the Chinese railway manufacturing industry. Datong is a prefecture-level city in northern Shanxi Province in the People's Republic of China. It is located in the Datong Basin at an elevation of and borders Inner Mongolia to the north and west and Hebei to the east. The HXD2 locomotives are a series of related locomotive classes built by CNR Datong Electric Locomotive and Alstom. The locomotives designs are based on the Alstom Prima electric locomotives, and are a product of a cooperation agreement signed between the two companies in 2004. All locomotives are intended for heavy freight work, including coal trains on the Datong Qinhuangdao line (Daqin Railway). The original HXD2 locomotives are twin unit Bo′Bo′+Bo′Bo′ vehicles whereas the HXD2B and HXD2C versions are single unit Co′Co′ machines. At the time of their construction the HXD2 and HXD2B locomotives were amongst the most powerful locomotives in the world. China Star (Simp. Chinese: 中华之星, a.k.a. DJJ2) is an indigenously designed experimental high speed train manufactured in China. It is an EMU train developed from the DJJ1 "Blue Arrow" high speed train by Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Works. Overview It consists of 2 power cars and 9 passenger cars. The prototype rolled out in 2002. The train set is designed for a top capacity of 270 km/h (168 mph), and a full load of 726 passengers. It achieved a top speed of 321 km/h (200 mph) on the newly built Qinshen Passenger Railway line during a test run in late 2002, setting a Chinese train speed record. However, due to signal system mismatches, and problems at electrical system and brake system, commercial services was delayed for the train.
