CPU Handbell Choir
CPU Handbell Ringers (Central Philippine University Handbell Ringers) (formerly ''CPU Handbell Choir'') is a Handbell choir founded at Central Philippine University. It is considered as the first handbell choir in the Philippines and also the only 5-octave handbell choir in the country. The group was organized by an American Baptist Baptists form a major branch of Protestantism distinguished by baptizing professing Christian believers only (believer's baptism), and doing so by complete immersion. Baptist churches also generally subscribe to the doctrines of soul compete ... missionary named Elizabeth Taylor way back in the 1970s. The Cultural Center of the Philippines has tapped the group for the Lakbay Sining Exchange Program since 2005, and had performed in various cultural concerts in the country. Jaro, Iloilo City
Jaro (; ) is a district of Iloilo City in the Philippine province of Iloilo on Panay Island in the Western Visayas region. It is the largest in terms of area and population of Iloilo City's seven districts, with 130,700 people in the 2020 census. Once a separate city, Jaro merged with Iloilo City when it was re-incorporated in the 1940s during the American administration in the Philippines. Jaro is the largest of all the seven districts comprising the City of Iloilo. The Iloilo City district of La Paz and the present municipalities of Leganes and Pavia, adjoined as historical parts of Jaro before they became independent. A handbell is a bell designed to be rung by hand. To ring a handbell, a ringer grasps the bell by its slightly flexible handle – traditionally made of leather, but often now made of plastic – and moves the arm to make the hinged clapper strike the inside of the bell. An individual handbell can be used simply as a signal to catch people's attention or summon them together, but handbells are also often heard in tuned sets. History The first tuned handbells were developed by ancient Vedic civilizations situated in the Indian Subcontinent, such as the Harrapan and Mohenjodaro civilizations. In music, an octave ( la, octavus: eighth) or perfect octave (sometimes called the diapason) is the interval between one musical pitch and another with double its frequency.
