CJWL-FM (98.5 MHz ''Lite 98.5'') is a Canadian radio station in Ottawa, Ontario. It is owned by Evanov Communications and broadcasts a soft adult contemporary format (with evening specialty shows focusing on pop standards and instrumental easy listening). CJWL's studios are located in the Glebe at 150 Isabella st, while its transmitter is located in downtown Ottawa. History The Jewel CJWL was launched on February 20, 2006. It has a similar format to co-owned CKDX and CKPC in Southern Ontario, which was branded as ''The Jewel 98.5 FM''. The station was licensed by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission in 2005. The CJWL call sign formerly belonged to Haliburton Broadcasting Group's CFIF in Iroquois Falls. On October 6, 2009, CJWL received CRTC approval to increase power from 485 watts to 1,100 watts. Lite 98.5 rebranding In May 2021, Evanov rebranded all Jewel stations to the Lite branding. CKDX-FM (88.5 MHz, ''Lite 88.5'') is a radio station licensed to Newmarket, Ontario, Canada and serving the Greater Toronto Area. Owned by Evanov Communications (but with a 30% stake held by outside investors under numbered companies), it broadcasts a soft adult contemporary format. CKDX's studios are located on Dundas Street West in the Eatonville neighbourhood of Etobicoke, Toronto, while its transmitter is located near Aurora History The station was launched on February 28, 1980 as AM 1480 CKAN, broadcasting from 6 am to midnight with a hybrid easy listening/beautiful music format. The station switched to a country format in 1984. In 1986, the station switched to a Top 40 format, and in 1988 the station began broadcasting 24 hours a day. The station shut down on March 17, 1992 due to financial problems, and resumed broadcasting on May 17 of that year when the problems were resolved. CFIF-FM is a Canadian radio station, which broadcasts at 101.1 FM radio, FM in Iroquois Falls, Ontario. The station airs an adult contemporary format branded as Moose FM. The station was launched in 1998 by Tri-Tel Communications as CJWL 104.9, and moved to its current frequency in 2000. In 2003, CJWL and its sister station CHPB-FM in Cochrane, Ontario, Cochrane were purchased by their owner, Haliburton Broadcasting Group. Haliburton changed the station's callsign to CFIF-FM in 2005, enabling Evanov Radio Group to take over the old callsign for its own new CJWL-FM in Ottawa. On April 23, 2012 Vista Broadcast Group, which owns a number of radio stations in western Canada, announced a deal to acquire Haliburton Broadcasting Group, Haliburton Broadcasting, in cooperation with Westerkirk Capital. Evanov Communications is a Canadian radio broadcasting company. It is also the sole owner of Dufferin Communications Inc., 80% owner of Halifax Broadcasting Ltd. and Ottawa Media Inc. The group of Evanov companies owns and operates a number of radio stations in Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba and Nova Scotia, History On March 16, 2011, Evanov applied to operate a new FM radio station in Muskoka Lakes, Ontario. The CRTC denied Evanov's application on September 27, 2011. If the application was approved, the new station would operate a new adult contemporary format on the frequency 104.7 MHz.
