CILV-FM (88.5 MHz, ''Live 88.5'') is a commercial FM radio station licensed to Ottawa, Ontario. Owned by Stingray Group, it broadcasts an alternative rock format. Its radio studios and offices are on Antares Drive in Nepean. CILV-FM has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 37,000 watts (90,000 watts maximum). While most Ottawa FM stations have their towers in Gatineau Park, CILV-FM's transmitter is off Old Prescott Road near Spring Hill Road in Greely, Ontario. History The station was licensed by the CRTC in 2005. CILV began testing its signal and streaming online on November 30, and officially signed on the air at Noon on December 26, 2005. CIHT-FM (89.9 FM, ''Hot 89.9'') is a radio station licensed to Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Owned by Stingray Group, it broadcasts a CHR/Top 40 format. CIHT's studios are located on Antares Drive in Nepean, while its transmitter is located in Camp Fortune, Quebec. History The station was licensed by the CRTC in 2001 to broadcast a rhythmic CHR/dance format known as ''The Planet 89.9''. The station launched on February 7, 2003 as ''The New Hot 89.9'' under a rhythmic contemporary format, but flipped to its current format after 105.3 Kiss FM signed on the air in 2004. The Balconies
The Balconies were a Canadian alternative music trio formed in Ottawa, Ontario. The band originally consisted of siblings Jacquie and Steve Neville, and Liam Jaeger. The group has performed with bands such as Cold War Kids, Mother Mother, Devo, Peter Bjorn and John, USS, Sloan, Stars, Wide Mouth Mason, Big Sugar, Tokyo Police Club, Bad Religion, and Sam Roberts Band. History Jacquie and Stephen Neville had been playing music together since their early teens. Jacquie first met Liam Jaeger at the University of Ottawa in 2005 while they were both studying classical music. The group formed in late 2007. They released their self-titled debut album in 2009. Effective Radiated Power
Effective radiated power (ERP), synonymous with equivalent radiated power, is an IEEE standardized definition of directional radio frequency (RF) power, such as that emitted by a radio transmitter. It is the total power in watts that would have to be radiated by a half-wave dipole antenna to give the same radiation intensity (signal strength or power flux density in watts per square meter) as the actual source antenna at a distant receiver located in the direction of the antenna's strongest beam (main lobe). ERP measures the combination of the power emitted by the transmitter and the ability of the antenna to direct that power in a given direction. It is equal to the input power to the antenna multiplied by the gain of the antenna. Amos the Transparent is a Canadian rock band from Ottawa, Ontario. Hollerado
Hollerado was a Canadian indie rock band from Ottawa, Ontario. Formed in 2007, the band consisted of Menno Versteeg (lead vocals, guitar), Nixon Boyd (lead guitar, backing vocals), Dean Baxter (bass, backing vocals) and Jake Boyd (drums, backing vocals). Hollerado went on to release four studio albums, before disbanding in 2019. They were nominated for awards such as the Juno Award that included Best New Group Award at the 2011 Juno Awards. Perth is a town in Eastern Ontario, Canada. It is located on the Tay River, southwest of Ottawa, and is the seat of Lanark County. A sign-on (or start-up in Commonwealth countries except Canada) is the beginning of operations for a radio or television station, generally at the start of each day. It is the opposite of a sign-off (or closedown in Commonwealth countries except Canada), which is the sequence of operations involved when a radio or television station shuts down its transmitters and goes off the air for a predetermined period; generally, this occurs during the overnight hours although a broadcaster's digital specialty or sub-channels may sign-on and sign-off at significantly different times as its main channels.
