CHVR-FM
CHVR-FM is a Canadian radio station, broadcasting at 96.7 FM in Pembroke, Ontario. The station airs a country format branded as '' Pure Country 96.7''. Prior to May 28, 2019, it was branded ''Star 96.7''. History The station was originally launched on July 1, 1942 as AM 1340 CHOV by Ottawa Valley Broadcasting. In the late 1940s CHOV moved to AM 1350. In 1961, Ottawa Valley also launched CHOV-TV. Workers at CHOV unionized and labour disputes at the channel led to management closing the station and selling it to new owners. The television station was purchased by J. Conrad Lavigne in 1977, adopting the callsign CHRO and becoming part of the MCTV system in 1980. In 1981, Mid-Canada Communications also purchased the radio station; it subsequently adopted the CHRO callsign as well. CKOB (AM)
CKOB (originally part of Opeongo Broadcasting) radio located in Renfrew, Ontario, Canada, broadcast on 1400 kHz until the later half of 1996 using a non-directional 1,000-watt circular beam antenna. The station was launched in 1974. The three original founders of CKOB were Marty Burns, Terry Sammon and James Donnohue. CKOB was sold to Jamie Pole in 1981. Richard Armitage (program director) managed early 1980s announcers such as Bob Rose (sports director), Rick Niemi (music director), Gerard "Gerry" Gava and Brother Lee Nelson as they entertained the Ottawa Valley region with an assortment of cross-country, middle-of-the-road and adult contemporary music. The station was semi-automated between midnight and six in the morning playing back pre-recorded music from a simple reel-to-reel logger machine running at 3/32 inches per second. Pembroke, Ontario
Pembroke is a city in the Canadian province of Ontario at the confluence of the Muskrat River and the Ottawa River in the Ottawa Valley. Pembroke is the location of the administrative headquarters of Renfrew County, though the city itself is politically independent. It is northwest of Ottawa. History The first European settler to the area now known as Pembroke was Daniel Fraser in 1823, who squatted on land that was discovered to have been granted to a man named Abel Ward. Ward later sold the land (where Moncion's Metro Supermarket is located) to Fraser, and nearby Fraser Street is named after the family. Peter White, a veteran of the Royal Navy arrived in 1828, squatting beside Fraser on the land where Dairy Queen is now located. CKOA (AM)
CKOA is a former radio station in Arnprior, Ontario that broadcast at AM 1490 kHz. On February 14, 1985, Opeongo Broadcasting Co. Ltd. received approval for a new AM station at Arnprior. The new station would broadcast on 1490 kHz with a power of 250 watts. CKOA would simulcast programming of CKOB out of Renfrew, Ontario except for the mid-mornings which originated at the CKOA studio in Arnprior's Sullivan Industrial Park. CKOA signed on April 18. CKOA had several staff including a sales department and production duties and local programming was handled by Station Manager Peter DeWolf. The station was sold in the late 1980s to Annapolis Valley Radio and later to Pelmorex Broadcasting, becoming a full-time repeater and ceasing local programming. Mid-Canada Communications was a Canadian media company, which operated from 1980 to 1990. The company, a division of Northern Cable, had television and radio holdings in Northeastern Ontario. MCTV Mid-Canada Television, or MCTV, was created in 1980 when Cambrian Broadcasting, which owned the CTV affiliates in Sudbury, North Bay and Timmins, merged with J. Telemedia
Telemedia was a Canadian media company, which had holdings in radio, television and magazine publishing. The company was launched in 1968 by Philippe de Gaspé Beaubien, when he purchased CKAC in Montreal from Power Corporation of Canada. CKAC remained the company's radio flagship for its entire existence. Telemedia was held privately until it became publicly traded in the late 1980s. Telemedia's magazine assets, including ''Canadian Living'', '' Harrowsmith'', '' Homemakers'' and the Canadian editions of ''TV Guide'' and ''Elle'', were sold to Transcontinental Media in 2000. CIRA-FM is a French language Canadian radio station located in Montreal, Quebec. Its studios are located at 5000 d'Iberville street in the Plateau Mont-Royal district of Montreal. It broadcasts on 91.3 MHz with an effective radiated power of 36,200 watts ( class C1) using an omnidirectional antenna located atop Mount Royal. Radio Ville-Marie now stylized as Radio VM received CRTC approval in 1994 to operate a new religious French-language FM radio programming at Montreal. CHRO-TV ( analogue channel 5) is a television station licensed to Pembroke, Ontario, Canada, serving the capital city of Ottawa as part of the CTV 2 system. Renfrew is a town on the Bonnechere River in Renfrew County, Ontario, Canada.
