CHRB (1140 AM, ''AM 1140'') is a radio station licensed to High River, Alberta. Owned by Golden West Broadcasting, it broadcasts a christian format. It first began broadcasting in 1977 at 1280 kHz before moving to its current dial position in 1996. CHRB is a Class B station broadcasting on a clear-channel frequency with daytime power of 50,000 watts, and nighttime power of 46,000 watts; a directional antenna is used at all times. High River is a town within the Calgary Metropolitan Region of Alberta, Canada. It is approximately south of Calgary, at the junction of Alberta Highways 2 and 23. High River had a population of 14,324 in 2021. History The community takes its name from the Highwood River, which flows through the town. The area was originally inhabited largely by the Blackfoot First Nation, who called the site ''Ispitzee'' (or the "place of high trees along running water"). CKXY-FM
CKXY-FM (91.5 FM, ''91.5 Cochrane Now'') is a radio station licensed to Cochrane, Alberta. Owned by Golden West Broadcasting, it broadcasts a country format. History In February 2007, Tiessen Media received CRTC approval to add a rebroadcaster of CFIT-FM/ Airdrie at 95.3 FM in Cochrane, Alberta. In March 2009, the CRTC approved an application by Tiessen to move CFIT-FM-1's transmitter to a new location with a higher elevation, and change its frequency to 91.5. Tiessen cited that this would improve reception (especially among those commuting from Calgary), and allow it to be fed over-the-air by CFIT's main signal. On July 9, 2015, the station's current owner Golden West Broadcasting submitted an application with the CRTC for a new radio station serving Cochrane, which would replace CFIT-FM-1 on its frequency. A clear-channel station is an AM broadcasting, AM radio station in North America that has the highest protection from Interference (communication), interference from other stations, particularly concerning night-time skywave propagation. The system exists to ensure the viability of cross-country or cross-continent radio service enforced through a series of treaties and statutory laws. Known as Class A stations since 1982, they are occasionally still referred to by their former classifications of Class I-A (the highest classification), Class I-B (the next highest class), or Class I-N (for stations in Alaska too far away to cause interference to the primary clear-channel stations in the lower 48 states). CFIT-FM
CFIT-FM is a Canadian radio station that broadcasts a hot adult contemporary format at 106.1 FM in Airdrie, Alberta. The station is currently owned by Golden West Broadcasting. The station played more pop/rock music other than its rival station, CHFM-FM. The station's launch in 2007 marked the first time Calgary began having two adult contemporary stations on FM. In 2011, regarding CIGY-FM flipping to adult hits, the station switched formats from a rock-leaning adult contemporary to more of a modern adult contemporary, leaving CHFM-FM as Calgary's only adult contemporary station and regarding the continuity of rock music in its playlist. It was also the largest English-language modern adult contemporary radio station in Canada.
