CFRH-FM
CFRH-FM is a Canadian radio station, broadcasting at 88.1 FM in Penetanguishene, Ontario. Owned and operated by the Radio-Huronie cooperative, it is a non-profit French-language community radio station for the region's Franco-Ontarian community. History The station was licensed by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission in 1988. The cooperative had previously produced some community programming for broadcast on CJBC's Penetanguishene rebroadcaster. CFRH-FM originally began broadcasting a 10-watt signal on 101.9 FM, along with rebroadcasters on 88.1 FM in Midland, 89.7 FM in Perkinsfield and 101.9 FM in Lafontaine. In 1999, the station was given approval to move to its current frequency, along with a power increase to 4,493 watts. As a result of the power increase, the station no longer needed to maintain the additional transmitters. In 2005, the station was licensed to increase its transmitter strength from 4.4 to 8.6 kW. The Alliance des radios communautaires du Canada is a Canadian organization, which serves as a coordinating body for French-language community radio stations in the regions of English Canada, where French speakers are in the minority. Founded in 1991, the organization supports the development and maintenance of French-language community radio in Canada through lobbying, advocacy, management support, training and syndication of programming. The organization cooperates with, but operates separately from, the Association des radiodiffuseurs communautaires du Québec for community radio stations in Quebec. In 2018, the two organizations held their first-ever joint conference for all French-language community radio stations across Canada. Penetanguishene , sometimes shortened to Penetang, is a town in Simcoe County, Ontario, Canada. It is located on the southeasterly tip of Georgian Bay. Incorporated on February 22, 1882, this bilingual ( French and English) community has a population of 8,962 in the Canada 2016 Census. The name ''Penetanguishene'' is believed to come from either the Wyandot or Abenaki via Ojibwe, meaning "land of the white rolling sands". The young French translator, Étienne Brûlé, was the first European to set foot in the Penetanguishene area, some time between 1610 and 1614. The station, which broadcasts an adult album alternative format, had its "soft launch" on July 31, 2013, and had its official launch on September 3, 2013. The station is the first entry into the Toronto market for Central Ontario Broadcasting, which also owns CFJB-FM and CKMB-FM in the outlying city of Barrie. Erin is a town in Wellington County, approximately northwest of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
