CFPS-FM is a Canadian radio station in Port Elgin, Ontario, broadcasting at 97.9 FM, with a active rock format with the on-air branding ''97.9 The Bruce''. The station originally began broadcasting on the AM band at 1490 kHz on June 21, 1978. CFPS was launched by its sister station, CFOS in Owen Sound, as a semi-satellite radio station. On February 17, 2005, Bayshore Broadcasting received approval to convert CFPS from the AM band to the FM band at 97.9 MHz. The station was launched on 97.9 FM on May 20, 2005 as ''98 The Beach'' and the old AM signal signed off the same day. Over the years, the station aired a variety of formats such as adult contemporary. CFOS and CFPS are owned by Bayshore Broadcasting. On December 2, 2019, Bayshore applied to add a new FM transmitter at Tobermory to rebroadcast the programming of CFPS-FM. Tobermory, Ontario
Tobermory is a small community located at the northern tip of the Bruce Peninsula, in the traditional territory of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation. Until European colonization in the mid-19th century, the Bruce Peninsula was home to the Saugeen Ojibway nations, with their earliest ancestors reaching the area as early as 7500 years ago. It is part of the municipality of Northern Bruce Peninsula. It is northwest of Toronto. The closest city to Tobermory is Owen Sound, south of Tobermory and connected by Highway 6. Naval surveyor Henry Bayfield originally named this Port Collins Harbour. CFOS is an AM radio station broadcasting from Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada. The format is oldies, classic adult contemporary music, and news (plus an adult standards/nostalgic music show, "Remember When," several nights a week from 8-11 p.m.), and is branded as ''560 CFOS''. CFOS is owned and operated by Bayshore Broadcasting of Owen Sound. History The station originally began broadcasting on March 1, 1940 at 1370 kHz, and changed frequencies to 1400 kHz on March 29, 1941 and again to 1470 kHz in 1947. Port Elgin, Ontario
Port Elgin is a community in Bruce County, Ontario, Canada. Its location is in the traditional territory of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation. Originally named Normanton the town was renamed Port Elgin when it was incorporated in 1874, after James Bruce, 8th Earl of Elgin, a former Governor General of the Province of Canada. Although road signs indicate the name Port Elgin, it is no longer an entity, per se. In 1998, the Town of Southampton, the Town of Port Elgin and Saugeen Township were amalgamated to form the Town of Port Elgin-Saugeen-Southampton. On December 17, 1998, the Province renamed the new municipality as the Town of Saugeen Shores. Owen Sound ( 2021 Census population 21,612) is a city in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. The county seat of Grey County, it is located at the mouths of the Pottawatomi and Sydenham Rivers on an inlet of Georgian Bay. The primary tourist attractions are the many waterfalls within a short drive of the town. History The area around the upper Great Lakes has been home to the Ojibwe people since prehistory. In 1815, William Fitzwilliam Owen surveyed the area and named the inlet after his older brother Admiral Edward Owen. The name of the area in Ojibwe language is ''Gchi-wiigwedong''. CHGB-FM is a Canadian radio station of a classic hits music format at 97.7 FM in Wasaga Beach, Ontario. The station uses the on-air brand name ''97.7 Max FM''. History The station was licensed by the CRTC in 2006 following a failed application in 2005, and began regular broadcasting on May 18, 2007. CHGB is owned by Bayshore Broadcasting.
