CFCY-FM
CFCY-FM is a Canadian radio station broadcasting at 95.1 FM in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island with a country format branded on-air as ''95.1 CFCY''. The station is owned & operated by the Maritime Broadcasting System. History The station was first launched by radio pioneer Keith Rogers on August 15, 1924 as 10AS on 250 meters. In 1925, the station was granted a full license as CFCY, broadcasting at 960 AM. It is among the oldest radio stations in Canada. In 1931, it moved to 580 AM, and then to its final AM frequency at 630 in 1933. Originally known as "The Friendly Voice of the Maritimes", the location in the centre of the Gulf of St. Lawrence allowed CFCY's 5,000-watt daytime signal to reach portions of Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec and New England as well as most of the Maritime provinces. CHLQ-FM is a Canadian radio station broadcasting at 93.1 FM in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. The station is owned by the Maritime Broadcasting System and currently broadcasts a mainstream rock format branded on-air as ''Max 93.1''. The station has been on the air since March 1982. On July 16, 2012, CHLQ switched from adult contemporary/classic hits (''Magic 93'') to mainstream rock (''Q93''). CBC Radio One is the English-language news and information radio network of the publicly owned Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. It is commercial-free and offers local and national programming. CJRW-FM is a Canadian radio station broadcasting at 102.1 FM in Summerside, Prince Edward Island owned & operated by the Maritime Broadcasting System. The station plays an adult contemporary format branded on-air as ''102 Spud FM''. CJRW is the only radio station in Prince Edward Island that is not being licensed to Charlottetown. History The station was launched in 1927 as CHGS originally broadcasting at 1120 on the AM dial. CBCT-DT (channel 13) is a CBC Television station in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. The station's studios are located on University Avenue in Charlottetown, and its transmitter is located on Route 1 near Bonshaw. It is the only full-fledged television station based in Prince Edward Island; all other television service in the province is provided by repeaters of stations from New Brunswick. Maritime Broadcasting System Limited, branded as MBS Radio, is a private Canadian broadcasting company owning 21 radio stations serving several communities in Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick. MBS Radio was established in 1969 as Eastern Broadcasting Limited in Campbellton, New Brunswick and is currently owned by Rob Pace. Don Messer
Donald Charles Frederick Messer (May 9, 1909 – March 26, 1973) was a Canadian musician, band leader, radio broadcaster, and defining icon of folk music during the 1960s. His CBC Television series '' Don Messer’s Jubilee'' (1959–69) featured Messer's down-east fiddle style and the "old-time" music of Don Messer and His Islanders, and was one of the most popular and enduring Canadian television programs of the 1960s. Messer was known as a shy fiddler, who preferred to have the other members of the band take the spotlight. Life Born in Tweedside, New Brunswick, Don Messer was the youngest of 11 children to John and Margaret Agnes (Moffitt) Messer. Keith Rogers
Keith Sinclair Rogers (1892–1954), was a Canadian radio pioneer and founder of CFCY radio in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Rogers began his radio interest as a boy in his father's home experimenting with wireless devices he had built at age 15. He was active in the local militia and involved with use of wireless devices for military communications as early as 1911. He had an ongoing affiliation with the #12 Signaling Section currently known as 36 Signal Regiment (Canada) eventually succeeding his father William Keir Rogers, as Lt. Colonel, but devoted himself to the development of commercial radio as a viable business entity. He signed on a 10-watt station, 10AS, from his living room in 1924. Charlottetown
Charlottetown is the capital and largest city of the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island, and the county seat of Queens County.
