CBJX-FM is a French language Canadian radio station located in Saguenay, Quebec. Owned and operated by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, it broadcasts on 100.9 MHz with an effective radiated power of 50,000 watts ( class B) using an omnidirectional antenna. The station has an ad-free music format featuring mostly classical music, jazz, world music and also other genres. It is part of the Ici Musique network (previously known, from 2004 to 2014 as ''Espace musique''; and before September 2004, as ''La Chaîne culturelle'' when the format was more focused on classical music), which operates across Canada. The station's call sign used to be CBJ-FM until 1999. At that time, that call sign started to be used by its sister station CBJ as it moved to FM; that station got the call sign CBJ-FM, and the old CBJ-FM thus had to change its own call sign. Ici Musique (stylized as ICI Musique) is the French-language music radio service of Canada's national public broadcaster, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (''Société Radio-Canada''). It is the French equivalent of the English CBC Music, although it has a different programming focus. History The network was originally launched as ''Le FM de Radio-Canada'' in 1974, with stations in Montreal, Ottawa, Quebec City and Chicoutimi. The network grew slowly. For a long time, its only full-fledged stations outside of Quebec were in Ottawa and Moncton. Saguenay ( , , ) is a city in the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region of Quebec, Canada, on the Saguenay River, about north of Quebec City by overland route. It is about upriver and northwest of Tadoussac, located at the confluence with the St. Lawrence River. It was formed in 2002 by merging the cities of Chicoutimi and Jonquière and the town of La Baie, Quebec, La Baie. Chicoutimi was founded by French colonists in 1676. The city of Saguenay constitutes a territory equivalent to a regional county municipality (TE); its geographical code is 941. Effective radiated power (ERP), synonymous with equivalent radiated power, is an IEEE standardized definition of directional radio frequency (RF) power, such as that emitted by a radio transmitter. It is the total power in watts that would have to be radiated by a half-wave dipole antenna to give the same radiation intensity (signal strength or power flux density in watts per square meter) as the actual source antenna at a distant receiver located in the direction of the antenna's strongest beam (main lobe). Dolbeau-Mistassini is a town in northern Quebec, Canada, at the confluence of the Mistassibi River, Riviere aux Rats and the Mistassini River, on Lac Saint-Jean. Dolbeau-Mistassini is in the Maria-Chapdelaine Regional County Municipality and is the commercial hub of Lac-St-Jean with big stores and shopping centres. The city was formed in 1997 through the amalgamation of the cities of Dolbeau and Mistassini. In broadcasting and radio communications, a call sign (also known as a call name or call letters—and historically as a call signal—or abbreviated as a call) is a unique identifier for a transmitter station. A call sign can be formally assigned by a government agency, informally adopted by individuals or organizations, or even cryptographically encoded to disguise a station's identity. The use of call signs as unique identifiers dates to the landline railroad telegraph system. Because there was only one telegraph line linking all railroad stations, there needed to be a way to address each one when sending a telegram.
