CASH Music
CASH Music (Coalition of Artists and Stakeholders) is a non-profit organization based out of Portland, Oregon founded by Kristin Hersh of Throwing Muses, Donita Sparks of L7, and Jesse von Doom. The organization is run by executive director Maggie Vail afteJesse von Doom resigned to focus on other matters CASH Music takes an open source approach to music production and distribution, and works directly with musicians and labels to help design the tools they build. History CASH Music evolved from a discussion about the sustainability of the music industry between musicians Kristin Hersh, Donita Sparks, and their managers Billy O'Connell and Bob Fagan. Health (band)
Health (often stylized as HEALTH) is an American noise rock/industrial band from Los Angeles, California. History Health was created after its members agreed the name should be an "everyday word." After reviewing a long list of terms, "health" was the only one not taken. ''Health'' Health first gained reputation through a remix of their song "Crimewave" by experimental electronic band Crystal Castles in August 2007. The rendition helped broaden Health's audience in anticipation for their full-length debut a month later released under Lovepump United. The band's self-titled album was recorded in L.A.’s noise/experimental venue, The Smell. Known for its DIY mystique, Health knew how difficult, yet rewarding, it would be to record in the space. Mom + Pop Music
Mom + Pop Music is a New York City-based independent record label whose current roster includes Courtney Barnett, Madeon, Tom Morello, Porter Robinson, Tycho, Tash Sultana, Sunflower Bean, Beach Bunny, Caamp, Del Water Gap and more. Founder and president Michael Goldstone launched the label in the summer of 2008, with the help of Q Prime Management owners Cliff Burnstein and Peter Mensch. In 2009, Thaddeus Rudd joined the label as Goldstone's partner and co-president. According to Goldstone, "Our ambition for Mom + Pop has been and always will be to build a collaborative label with transparency and sincere respect for our artists’ creative controls." Nika Roza Danilova (born Nicole Rose Hummel; April 11, 1989), known professionally by her stage name Zola Jesus, is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. Her music has been noted for combining elements of electronic, industrial, classical, and goth. Xiu Xiu
Xiu Xiu ( ) is an American experimental band, formed in 2002 by singer-songwriter Jamie Stewart in San Jose, California. Currently, the line-up consists of Stewart (the only constant member since formation) and Angela Seo. The band's name comes from the film '' Xiu Xiu: The Sent Down Girl'', which has influenced the sound of their music, according to Stewart. The Swell Season
The Swell Season is a folk rock duo formed by Irish musician Glen Hansard and Czech singer and pianist Markéta Irglová. "The Swell Season" name is derived from Hansard's favourite novel by Josef Škvorecký from 1975 bearing the same title. Their debut album, released in 2006, carried the same name. The duo rose to prominence following the success of the 2007 film ''Once,'' directed by John Carney, in which the pair starred depicting a dramatised version of their own musical pairing. Their song "Falling Slowly" from the film took the Oscar for Best Song at the 80th Academy Awards. The Raincoats
The Raincoats are a British experimental post-punk band. Ana da Silva (vocals, guitar) and Gina Birch (vocals, bass) formed the group in 1977 while they were students at Hornsey College of Art in London.
