	Ísafjörður Airport Ísafjörður Airport ( is, Ísafjarðarflugvöllur ) is an airport serving Ísafjörður, a town in the Westfjords ( is, Vestfirðir) region in northwestern Iceland. History Planning for the airport started in 1958 construction of the runway started the same year. It was originally 1.100 meters long and the cost of the construction was 4.8 million ISK. It was formally opened on 2 October 1960 with ''Gljáfaxi'', a Douglas DC-3 from Flugfélag Íslands, being the first plane to land on the airport. Approach Located in a fjord, the approach to the runway requires aircraft to fly close to the surrounding terrain, making it unique and more challenging than at most airports. Approaches generally cannot be straight-in for either direction, and when landing to the northeast, a full 180 degree turn must be made before touchdown. 	Westfjords Heritage Museum The Westfjords Heritage Museum ( is, Byggðasafn Vestfjarða ) is a museum in Ísafjörður in the Westfjords of Iceland. The museum is based on maritime heritage and gives an insight into the local Westfjords fisheries and fishing industry as well the life of the fishermen, their families and the coastal culture through the centuries. The museum has made a policy concerning preservation of boats to restore them to their previous condition and to keep them seaworthy. The main focus is also to maintain knowledge and skills concerning their repair and maintenance and make sure that the knowledge is being passed between generations. The museum was opened in Turnhúsið on Fisherman's Day in 1988. 	Bolungarvík Bolungarvík (, regionally also ) is a small town and the only built-up area in the municipality of Bolungarvíkurkaupstaður in the northwest of Iceland, located on the Westfjords peninsula, approximately from the town of Ísafjörður and from the capital city Reykjavík. 	Suðureyri Suðureyri () is a small Icelandic fishing village perched on the tip of the 13 km-long Súgandafjörður in the Westfjords.
