Zvishavane District
Zvishavane District is one of the eight districts in Midlands Province of Zimbabwe. It has Mberengwa District to the south and Shurugwi District to the north. Its capital is Zvishavane town. Economy Zvishavane District is home of Zvishavane Town which developed from an asbestos mine compound into a town. See Shabanie Mashaba Mine. It is also home to Murowa Diamond Mine located in Mazvihwa, 40 km from Zvishavane Town. Midlands Districts
The Midlands (also referred to as Central England) are a part of England that broadly correspond to the Mercia, Kingdom of Mercia of the Early Middle Ages, bordered by Wales, Northern England and Southern England. Murowa
The Murowa diamond mine is a diamond mine located in Mazvihwa, south central Zimbabwe, about 40 kilometres from the asbestos mining town of Zvishavane in the Midlands province. The mine is majority owned and operated by the Rio Tinto Group, which also owns the Argyle diamond mine in Australia and part of the Diavik Diamond Mine in Canada. The mine is a combination of open pit and underground construction; current estimates put construction costs at $61 million USD and mine reserves are 19 million tonnes of ore, with an ore grade of per tonne. Zvishavane
Zvishavane (known until 1982 as Shabani) is a mining town in Midlands Province, Zimbabwe. Surrounded by low hills, it lies west of Masvingo, on the main Bulawayo-Masvingo road. Other roads lead from Zvishavane to Gweru, north, and Mberengwa, south-west. It is also on direct rail links to Gweru and Beit Bridge which then link up with Harare and Bulawayo in Zimbabwe and to Maputo in Mozambique, and Pretoria in South Africa. It has a private airport serving the city. Name Zvishavane was formerly called ''Shabanie'' (used by the mine) or ''Shabani'' (used for the town). The name "Shabanie" has been said to be derived from "shavani", a Ndebele word meaning "finger millet", or "trading together".
