Waukesha County () is a county in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 406,978, making it the third-most populous county in Wisconsin. Its county seat and largest city is Waukesha. Waukesha County is included in the Milwaukee– Waukesha–West Allis, WI Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Known as forested and prairie land, the region was first home to Indigenous tribes like Menomonie, Ojibwe (Chippewa), Potawatomi, and Ho-Chunk (Winnebago), who practiced agriculture and trade. In 1836, Native American tribes formally lost title to the land when treaties were disregarded and were forcibly removed by the Federal Army. Prior to the 1830s, the area was unoccupied by settlers due to its inland location and the fact that the Fox River was not a water highway. Waukesha West High School is one of three public high schools located in Waukesha, Wisconsin. The high school was established in 1993. History Email threat and subsequent evacuation On December 3, 2021, almost two weeks after the Waukesha Christmas parade attack, the principal received an email about a specific threat to students during the lunch period. As soon as the email threat was discovered, the school was put on a "hold" designation where students and staff remained in their classrooms, and conducted business as usual, and nobody was allowed to leave the classroom for any reason. The email threat also came on the heels of the Oxford High School Shooting in Michigan. After consultation with the Waukesha Police Department, the school was put on a "staggered evacuation" that started with students who drive, followed by students who ride the bus or get picked up by their parents. Waukesha Christmas Parade Attack
On November 21, 2021, Darrell E. Brooks Jr. drove a sport utility vehicle (SUV) through the annual Christmas parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin, United States, killing six people and injuring sixty-two others. Brooks pleaded not guilty to six counts of first-degree intentional homicide and seventy-one additional charges, and chose to represent himself at his trial, which began on October 3, 2022. Brooks presented pseudolegal arguments from the sovereign citizen movement and was repeatedly removed from the courtroom for failing to comply with decorum and courtesy. On October 26, 2022, a jury found Brooks guilty on all seventy-six charges. He was sentenced to six consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole, plus an additional 763 years and 3 months, to be served consecutively on November 16, 2022. The Waukesha Biota (also known as Waukesha Lagerstätte, Brandon Bridge Lagerstätte, or Brandon Bridge fauna) refers to a Konservat-Lagerstätte ( a fossil site that preserves soft bodied remains) of Early Silurian (Telychian to Sheinwoodian) age found within the Brandon Bridge Formation in Waukesha County and Franklin, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. It is known for the exceptional preservation of its diverse, soft-bodied and lightly skeletonized taxa, including many major taxa found nowhere else in strata of similar age. The sites discovery was announced in 1985, thus leading to a wide plethora of discoveries being made. This biota is one of the few well studied lagerstättes from the Silurian, making it very important in our understanding of Silurian faunas. The Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad (CMStP&P), often referred to as the "Milwaukee Road" , was a Class I railroad that operated in the Midwest and Northwest of the United States from 1847 until 1986. Waukesha North High School is one of three high schools located in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Operated by the Waukesha School District, the school opened in mid-year, at the start of the second semester, during the 1974-1975 school year. The school is part of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association and the Classic 8 Conference in athletics. North's nickname is the "Northstars" and the school mascot is the polar bear, "Sparky" The school has a rotating schedule and advisory program.
