Walvis Bay
Walvis Bay (; ; ) is a city in Namibia and the name of the bay on which it lies. It is the List of cities in Namibia, second largest city in Namibia and the largest coastal city in the country. The city covers an area of of land. The bay is a haven for sea vessels due to its natural deep-water harbour, protected by the Pelican Point sand spit, which is the only natural harbour of any size along the country's coast. Being rich in plankton and marine life, these waters also draw large numbers of southern right whales, attracting whalers and fishing vessels. A succession of colonists developed the location and resources of this strategic harbour settlement. The harbour's value about the sea route around the Cape of Good Hope had caught the attention of world powers since it was discovered by the outside world in 1485. Southern Right Whale
The southern right whale (''Eubalaena australis'') is a baleen whale, one of three species classified as right whales belonging to the genus ''Eubalaena''. Southern right whales inhabit oceans south of the Equator, between the latitudes of 20° and 60° south. In 2009 the global population was estimated to be approximately 13,600. Taxonomy Right whales were first classified in the genus '' Balaena'' in 1758 by Carl Linnaeus, who at the time considered all right whales (including the bowhead) to be a single species. In the 19th and 20th centuries the family Balaenidae was the subject of great taxonometric debate. Langstrand
Langstrand (Afrikaans and German for "Long Beach", which the residential area is often called by English-speaking tourists) is a small beach resort on the Atlantic coast in western Namibia. Langstrand and its neighboring sister resort Dolfynstrand lies between Walvis Bay and Swakopmund. The fact that these towns are sandwiched between the high sand dunes of the Namib Desert and the Atlantic Ocean, makes them quite unique. Tourists are often drawn here for activities like quad biking in the dunes, paragliding, sandboarding and to experience the small and great wonders of the desert and the ocean. Langstrand is governed by the municipality of Walvis Bay. It is popular for escaping the interior summer heat in Namibia. Namibia Premier League
The Namibia Premier League (NPL) was the highest level of domestic association football in Namibia until it was disbanded following the 2018-19 season. The league was established in 1990 and was trimmed to 12 teams from the traditional 16 in 2005. It was disbanded in 2020 after ongoing problems with the Namibia Football Association, which finally ended their relationship. The NFA founded the Namibia Football Premier League to replace it. The new league kicked off with the 2022-2023 season with African Stars against UNAM FC at the Hage Geingob Rugby Stadium. Kuisebmund Stadium
Kuisebmond Stadium is an open-air stadium in Walvis Bay, Namibia. It is home to several teams in the Namibia Premier Football League, including the Eleven Arrows and Blue Waters football clubs. The stadium has capacity for 4,000 spectators. Kuisebmond Stadium takes its name from the mouth of the Kuiseb River The Kuiseb River is an ephemeral river in western-central Namibia. Its source is in the Khomas Highland west of Windhoek. From there it flows westwards through the Namib-Naukluft National Park and the Namib desert to Walvis Bay. Dune 7 (Namibia)
Dune 7, located outside of Walvis Bay and became a landmark as it was 7 miles from the town centre. Dune 7 is part of the dune belt the runs from Walvis Bay to Swakopmund and is often visited by tourists. This dune is located inside the Dorob National Park and is managed under concession by Sandwich Dune Tours and Safari as of the 15th of June 2023.
