Walt Disney World Pro Soccer Classic
The Walt Disney World Pro Soccer Classic is an annual preseason soccer tournament for clubs in North America. Hosted by Disney, it is contested at Hess Sports Fields' Field 17, part of the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. The tournament debuted with four teams in 2010 and is broadcast online by ESPN3. Columbus Crew are the current holders of the trophy, having defeated Sporting KC 4–1 in an overall dominant performance, finishing the tournament 4–0–1. History The inaugural event took place in 2010. Four Major League Soccer clubs—FC Dallas, Houston Dynamo, the New York Red Bulls, and Toronto FC were invited to participate in the weekend (Thursday through Saturday) knockout tournament. The tournament was held February 25–27, approximately one month before the regular season kicked off on March 25. The Columbus Crew, formerly known as Columbus Crew SC, is an American professional soccer club based in Columbus, Ohio. The Crew competes in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member of the league's Eastern Conference and began play in 1996 as one of the 10 charter clubs of the league. The 2011 Walt Disney World Pro Soccer Classic was a preseason soccer tournament held at Walt Disney World's ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The 2013 Walt Disney World Pro Soccer Classic was the fourth edition of the Walt Disney World Pro Soccer Classic, a pre-season exhibition tournament held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at the Walt Disney World in Bay Lake, Florida. A total of six Major League Soccer teams participated. The defending champions were the Vancouver Whitecaps FC, but the club did not participate. The Houston Dynamo and FC Dallas did not compete for the first time since the competition's inception in 2010. Toronto FC was the last original team to remain. Houston Dynamo FC (formerly officially, but still commonly, called the Houston Dynamo) is an American professional soccer club based in Houston. The Dynamo compete in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member of the Western Conference. Established on December 15, 2005, the club was founded after their former owners relocated the San Jose Earthquakes' players and staff to Houston following the 2005 season.
