United Australia Party
The United Australia Party (UAP) was an Australian political party that was founded in 1931 and dissolved in 1945. The party won four federal elections in that time, usually governing in coalition with the Country Party. It provided two prime ministers: Joseph Lyons ( 1932–1939) and Robert Menzies ( 1939–1941). The UAP was created in the aftermath of the 1931 split in the Australian Labor Party. Six fiscally conservative Labor MPs left the party to protest the Scullin Government's financial policies during the Great Depression. Led by Joseph Lyons, a former Premier of Tasmania, the defectors initially sat as independents, but then agreed to merge with the Nationalist Party and form a united opposition. Lyons was chosen as the new party's leader due to his popularity among the general public, with former Nationalist leader John Latham becoming his deputy. The United Party is a political party in Papua New Guinea. As of May 2019, it has one seat in the National Parliament and is led by Minister for Foreign Affairs, Rimbink Pato. History There were attempts from 1964 to 1968 to form political parties. A meeting was held in Port Moresby and a Territory Country Party, organized along the lines of the Australian Country Party, was formed in 1967. The connection between Australian Country Party and political parties in PNG was through the Compass Party (later United Party). People's United Party
The People's United Party (PUP) is one of two major political parties in Belize. It is currently the governing party of Belize after success in the 2020 Belizean general election, winning a majority of 26 seats out of 31 in the Belizean House of Representatives. It is a centre-left Christian democratic party. The party leader is Johnny Briceño, who currently serves as the Prime Minister of Belize. The United Party for National Development (UPND) is a social liberal political party in Zambia, led by Hakainde Hichilema, the current president of the country. The party is an observer member of the Africa Liberal Network. History The UPND was established in December 1998 and was initially led by Anderson Mazoka, who had left the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD) shortly beforehand. Mazoka was the party's presidential candidate for the 2001 general elections, finishing second with 27% of the vote, less than 2% behind the winner Levy Mwanawasa of the MMD. In the National Assembly elections the UPND won 49 seats, becoming the second largest party after the MMD. History The party was established in mid-1966 by two Lozi-speaking MPs, one from the United National Independence Party ( Dickson Chikulo) and one from the Zambian African National Congress ( Mufaya Mumbuna). It was originally named the United Front before becoming the United Party. The United Party of Retirees and Pensioners ( pt, Partido Unido dos Reformados e Pensionistas, PURP) is a Portuguese political party focused on securing the rights of pensioners. It was founded by António Mateus Dias and Fernando Loureiro and registered by the Portuguese Constitutional Court on 13 July 2015. It contested the Portuguese legislative election, 2015 and the European Parliament election, 2019. The United Party (sometimes referred to as the BVI United Party) (or UP) is a nodefunctpolitical party of the British Virgin Islands. It was originally formed by Conrad Maduro, H. Lavity Stoutt, Terrance B. Lettsome and Ivan Dawson during the first session of the Legislative Council of the British Virgin Islands under the new constitution in 1967 subsequent to the general election on 14 April 1967. Although Conrad Maduro was the President of the party, he did not win his seat at the 1967 general election, and so it was agreed that Lavity Stoutt would be appointed Chief Minister.
