Cill Ghallagáin
Cill Ghallagáin (anglicised as Kilgalligan) is a small Gaeltacht coastal townland and village in the northwest corner of Kilcommon Parish, County Mayo, Republic of Ireland, an area of in size. Off the northern coast of this townland lies Kid Island, an island of rising on steep cliffs to a height of above sea level. The island is used for grazing sheep in the summer months. Kilcommon Parish consists of two peninsulas – Dún Chaocháin (on which Cill Ghallagáin lies) and Dún Chiortáin, to the west. Archaeology and history This townland has many forts and ancient buildings. In Kilgalligan graveyard which is close to the beach at Broadhaven Bay there is a large mound about which there are many stories. It has never been archaeologically investigated. It may be the remains of the early Christian church of St. Galligan, from who this townland takes its name. Galligan himself is considered to have been buried within the large cairn. Glinsk Mountain (304 metres) is a remote area of upland blanket bog with sea cliffs descending to Broadhaven Bay and continuing along the coast to a height of 255 metres at Benwee Head. Glencullen, County Mayo
Glencullen or Glencullin () is a rural area which spans two townlands in the parish of Kiltane in County Mayo, Ireland. It lies to the north of Bangor Erris, next to the parish of Kilcommon, Erris, and the Bangor to Kilcommon road runs through the area. The two constituent townlands, Glencullen Lower and Glencullen Upper, are located in an area of blanket bog and extend across approximately 2,125 acres and 2,780 acres respectively. History Glencullen (or Glencullin) Lower is not heavily populated, with just 12 residents as of the 2011 census. However, in the 19th century it contained about 40 houses within a radius. In 1842, the road connecting Glencullen with Muingingaun was sanctioned and during the Public works for the Distress in 1847 the road from Glencullen to Bangor was laid, costing £150. Enaghbeg (Irish: An tAonach Beag) is a townland located in the Barony of Tirawley, in the County of Mayo. It is in the Electoral Division of Deel, in Civil Parish of Crossmolina. Agriculture is the primary economic activity. The townland is situated west of Crossmolina and north of the N59 main road to Belmullet. Dún Ibhir (anglicised as Dooniver), meaning "Ibhir's stronghold", or "Ibhir's fort" is a Gaeltacht village on Achill Island in County Mayo, Ireland. Geography Dooniver is located on the east coast of Achill Island. Surrounding villages include Askill, The Valley: Tóin an tSeanbhaile and Bunnacurry.
