Tinopolis
The Tinopolis Group is an international TV production and distribution group with businesses based in the UK and US. It produces over 4,500 hours of television annually for more than 200 UK and foreign broadcasters. History Llanelli, Wales, became such a significant regional producer of tin that it was referred to as "Tinopolis" by the latter half of the 19th century. Hence the parent company took this name when it was established there in 1990. Tinopolis purchased The Television Corporation, the parent company of Sunset + Vine and Mentorn, in 2006. Video Arts, the training media company, was founded in 1972 by comic John Cleese, and since trained about 100,000 organisations in approximately 50 countries. Video Arts was purchased by Tinopolis in 2007. In 1988, writer and director Ed Thomas founded Fiction Factory, a company now part of Tinopolis. Caerdydd (TV Series)
''Caerdydd'' is a Welsh language television programme set in Cardiff made by Fiction Factory for Welsh public service television station S4C. The series is "a stylish, new drama about modern, urban Welsh-speakers living in a bilingual city" following "a group of modern urban twenty- and thirtysomethings" with "their complex friendships and relationships etagainst a backdrop of relentless socialising". First commissioned by S4C's drama editor Angharad Jones in 2005, as part of a drive by S4C to reach a younger audience, the third series of ''Caerdydd'' started its run on S4C on 30 March 2008. A fourth series was commissioned and went into production in Spring 2008. It started broadcasting on 14 June 2009. Angharad Mair
Angharad Mair (born March 1960) is a Welsh television presenter; she is the lead presenter on the nightly S4C Welsh language magazine programme, ''Heno'' and the BBC Wales news programme, ''Wales Today''. Background She was born in Carmarthen, South Wales, where she lived with her older sister and three younger brothers. Her first jobs were working in Tesco and The Ivy Bush Royal Hotel in Carmarthen. Media career After training and working for BBC Wales, where she worked on the Welsh language children's programme '' Bilidowcar'', Mair joined Llanelli-based independent television production company Tinopolis in 1991. () is a Welsh television magazine and chat show programme. Broadcast live on S4C weeknights at 7:00 pm, it features topical stories and studio guests. Various reporters also assist with subject-specific presenting, both in the studio and on location, or through filmed segments. Its afternoon sister programme is called (). ''Y Pris'' (English: ''The Price'') is a Welsh television crime drama, produced by Fiction Factory for Welsh public service television station S4C. The series, described in its tagline as "''The Sopranos'' by the seaside", is set in Carmarthenshire and follows the "tangled lives of a group of gangsters who hide their illicit dealings". The series was written and created by Tim Price. The first series comprises thirteen episodes. It was filmed in March and April 2007. The second series, comprising eight episodes, was commissioned by S4C in 2008 and filmed later the same year for broadcast in 2009. Ron Jones (businessman)
Ron Jones (born 1948) is a British businessman and executive chair of Tinopolis, one of the UK's largest television production companies. Previously a partner in the accounting and consultancy firm Arthur Andersen. He was a founder of Tinopolis in 1990 and has led the company since that time. Jones took the company public in 2005 and this led to a rapid expansion by acquisition, including a hostile takeover of the largest listed production company at that time, The Television Corporation PLC. In 2008 Jones and his management team bought the company back in partnership with Vitruvian Partners, a private equity company. Llanelli ("St Elli's Parish"; ) is a market town and the largest community in Carmarthenshire and the preserved county of Dyfed, Wales.
