Thinali
Thinali ( el, Θινάλι) is a former municipality on the island of Corfu, Ionian Islands, Greece. Since the 2019 local government reform it is part of the municipality North Corfu, of which it is a municipal unit. It is located in the northernmost part of the island of Corfu, in the middle of the north coast. With its 77.899 km², it was the largest municipality on the island. Its population was 5,226 at the 2011 census. The seat of the municipality was the town of Acharavi (pop. 1,013). Its largest other towns are Nymfes (pop. 612) and Epískepsi (332). It is located northwest of the Corfu (city), city of Corfu. Last mayor of Thinali was Varelis Spiridon from village Lafki. Acharavi
Acharavi ( el, Αχαράβη) is a settlement in the northern coast of Corfu, Greece. The area offers a view of the Albanian coast. It is the seat of the municipality North Corfu. Population History Acharavi belongs to the community of ''Agios Panteleimonas'' (pronounounced: 'Agios Padel'eimonas, el, Άγιος Παντελέημονας). The formerly independent community of Agios Panteleimonas is nowadays one of the ten official sections of the municipal unit of Thinali. Etymologically, the name Acharavi consists of the Greek words Achari Hebe (pronounounced: 'Ahari Ivi, Greek: Άχαρη Ήβη) meaning "ungracious life/youth". Originally it was called Hebe and was an ancient Greek city, possibly named after the daughter of Zeus, Hebe. The city was destroyed in 32 BC by the Roman Emperor Octavian and was thus renamed from the city of life "Hebe" into the city of "Ungracious Life" Acharavi. Nymfes ( el, Νύμφες meaning nymphs) is a village in the northern part of the island of Corfu, Greece. It was the seat of the municipality of Thinali. In 2011 its population was 642 for the village and 995 for the community, which includes the village Platonas. Lake Antiniotissa
Lake Antiniotissa or Antinioti ( el, Λίμνη Αντινιώτισσα/Αντινιώτη), sometimes known as Antinioti Lagoon, is a small brackish lake on the north-east coast of Corfu, Greece near Agios Spyridon beach. It is an important wetland area and lies within a Natura 2000 nature protection area of at the western edge of the municipal unit of Thinali. The lake's Greek name translates into English as "the enemy of youth". It was once a malarial swamp and home to the anopheles mosquito, resulting in the area being uninhabited for many centuries, and it is still comparatively undeveloped. The vegetation surrounding the lake includes thickets of reed and bamboo. Inland there are orchards, olive groves and farmland, while between the lake and the sea lie sand dunes.
