Swiss Indoors
The Swiss Indoors is a professional men's tennis tournament played on indoor hard courts at the St. Jakobshalle in Basel, Switzerland. History The historical precursor event to this tournament was called the Swiss International Covered Courts that ran from 1920 to 1959, that was a fully open event for international players. To fill that gap this tournament was created in 1970 by Roger Brennwald and originally featured mainly Swiss top players. It became an event on the Grand Prix tennis circuit in 1977, when Björn Borg won the title and stayed until 1989. Since 2009 it has been part of the World Tour 500 Series of the ATP Tour. Before 2009, it was part of the ATP World Series from 1990 until 1999 which became the ATP International Series in 2000. John Lloyd (tennis)
John Lloyd (born 27 August 1954) is a British former professional tennis player. Lloyd reached an ATP world ranking of 21 from 23 July 1978 to 30 July 1978, and was ranked as UK number 1 in 1984 and 1985. He now works as a sports commentator. During his career, he reached one Grand Slam singles final and won three Grand Slam mixed doubles titles with tennis partner Wendy Turnbull: the French Open in 1982 and Wimbledon in 1983 and 1984. Jan Kodeš
Jan Kodeš (born 1 March 1946) is a Czech former professional tennis player. A three-time major singles champion, Kodeš was one of the premier players in the early 1970s. Kodeš's greatest success was achieved on the clay courts of the French Open, where he won the singles title in 1970 and 1971. However, he also won Wimbledon on grass courts in 1973, although the tournament was largely boycotted by top players that year over the ban of Nikola Pilić by the International Lawn Tennis Federation (ILTF). Kodeš never played at the Australian Open, but was twice the runner-up at the US Open, in 1971 and 1973. Kodeš reached his highest ATP ranking of world No. 5 in September 1973. Ilie Theodoriu Năstase (, born 19 July 1946) is a former World No. 1 Romanian tennis player. He was ranked world No. 1 in singles from 23 August 1973 to 2 June 1974, and was the first man to hold the top position on the computerized ATP rankings. Roger Taylor (tennis)
Roger Taylor MBE (born 14 October 1941) is a British former tennis player. Born in Sheffield, West Riding of Yorkshire, he won 6 singles titles and 10 doubles titles during his career. He achieved success at several Grand Slam tournaments, reaching the quarter-finals of the French Open in 1973, the semi-finals of Wimbledon during the same year and winning back to back US Open Men's Doubles titles in 1971 and 1972. He also enjoyed particular success in 1970, again reaching the semi-finals of Wimbledon, where he achieved a big upset win over defending champion Rod Laver en route, and the semi-finals of the Australian Open. Leonardo Manta (born 5 September 1950) is an Italian-born Swiss former tennis player. Manta was a Davis Cup player for Switzerland, with an appearance in a tie against Spain in Basel in 1971. Partnering with Matthias Werren, he competed in the doubles rubber against Juan Gisbert Sr. and Manuel Orantes. His best result in singles came at the 1971 Swiss Indoors.
