Suriname Major League
The Suriname Major League (SML) is the professional football league in Suriname. The competition was launched on February 22, 2024, by the Surinamese Football Association as a successor to the SVB Eerste Divisie, formerly known as the SVB Hoofdklasse. Surinamese Football Association
The Surinamese Football Association ( nl, Surinaamse Voetbal Bond ) is the governing body of football in Suriname. It organizes the Surinamese football league system, the Surinamese Cup, Suriname President's Cup, Suriname national football team, and the Suriname women's national football team. It is based in Paramaribo, and is a founding member of CONCACAF and a member of FIFA. Just neighboring French Guiana and Guyana, Suriname are not members of the South American CONMEBOL confederation, but instead of CONCACAF, which covers North America, Central America, and the Caribbean. Moengo
Moengo () is a town in Suriname, located in the Marowijne district, between Paramaribo and the border town Albina on the Cottica River. Moengo is also a resort (municipality) in the district of Marowijne. Moengo was the capital of Marowijne District between 1932 and 1945. The current capital is Albina. History Moengo started as a Maroon village on top of a hill overlooking the Cottica River. The settlement was later abandoned due to the difficulty of building houses on the bauxite rich ground. In 1916, Alcoa founded the first bauxite mine in Suriname, and this marks the beginning of the current town. Moengo was designed in 1919 to house 4,000 people. It would become a major centre for the mining and storage of bauxite. Moengo was a segregated town. Kwatta
Kwatta is a resort in Suriname, located in the Wanica District. Its population at the 2012 census was 14,151. Kwatta is named after a former cocoa plantation located here. It used to be an agriculture area, but due to its close proximity of Paramaribo, it is becoming suburban. In the 1838, the Kwattaweg was built connecting Kwatta with Paramaribo. In the early 21st century, building projects have started in Mattonshoop en Sophia's Lust. The Kwattaweg is the main road in the resort and part of the East-West Link. Inter Moengotapoe (sometimes rendered Inter Moengo Tapoe or just IMT) is a Surinamese football club, based in Moengo, Marowijne between Paramaribo and the border town of Albina. They play their home matches at the Ronnie Brunswijkstadion. Inter Moego currently compete in Eerste Divisie, and finished in 1st position in the 2018–19 season. History IMT was champion of Suriname 10 times, winning every year between 2006-07 and 2018–19 except for 2007–08, 2011–12 and 2017-18. Paramaribo (; ; nicknamed Par'bo) is the capital and largest city of Suriname, located on the banks of the Suriname River in the Paramaribo District. PVV (''Politie Voetbal Vrienden'', en, Police Football Friends) is a Surinamese football club from the capital city Paramaribo, currently playing in the SVB Eerste Divisie, the first tier of football in Suriname. The 2024 season is the first season of the Suriname Major League, introducing professional football in Suriname. The season began on 23 February 2024. It is scheduled to conclude on 25 August. The league's first goal was scored by Jamilhio Rigters of S.V. Robinhood, in the opening match on 23 February 2024 against S.V. Transvaal. S.V. Robinhood won their first title of the Suriname Major League, going unbeaten. Teams Bintang Lahir withdrew from the league and Santos were relegated to the 2023–24 SVB Tweede Divisie. No team from the Tweede Divisie was promoted and the league was reduced from 14 teams to 10 teams.
