Siu Lek Yuen
Siu Lek Yuen () is an area in Sha Tin District, New Territories East. Located to the east of Yuen Chau Kok, the area is surrounded on three sides by the Ma On Shan Country Park. Nowadays it is a residential area. Name The name means the origin of small river in Chinese. It is so named because the area situated originally between two rivers. Geography Siu Lek Yuen lies at a hill that locates at the east side of Shing Mun River. Therefore, unlike most of the Sha Tin New Town, the land does not come from reclamation. History Siu Lek Yuen was originally a ford of Tide Cove (), which was reclaimed for the development of Sha Tin New Town. At a result, only Siu Lek Yuen Nullah (), a small nullah of the Shing Mun River remained. As part of the New Town, Siu Lek Yuen also underwent a vast change in the years. Shek Mun () is a station on the of Hong Kong. To the west, it serves the Shek Mun Industrial Area and northeastern portion of City One, including Siu Lek Yuen Playground. City One () is a station on the Tuen Ma line in Hong Kong. Tate's Cairn Tunnel is a four-lane road tunnel in Hong Kong. Constructed as part of Route 2, it links Diamond Hill, New Kowloon with Siu Lek Yuen, Sha Tin, New Territories East. It opened on 26 June 1991. Its toll plaza is situated on the Sha Tin side, leading to Tate's Cairn Highway, Sha Lek Highway and various local roads. It is a HK$20 billion residential-commercial development project by Cheung Kong and MTR Corporation. Home Ownership Scheme
The Home Ownership Scheme (HOS) is a subsidised-sale public housing programme managed by the Hong Kong Housing Authority. It was instituted in the late 1970s as part of the government policy for public housing with two aims – to encourage better-off tenants of rental flats to vacate those flats for re-allocation to families in greater housing need; and also to provide an opportunity for home ownership to families unable to afford to buy in the private sector. Under the scheme, the government sells flats to eligible public housing tenants and to lower-income residents at prices below the market level, with discounts usually between 30 and 40 per cent.
