Shimmer (play)
''Shimmer'' is a 1988 award-winning one-man play by American playwright John O'Keefe. It is a solo performance, portraying multiple characters, that describes life on a harsh juvenile detention farm in the Midwest in the 1950s. Plot The solo actor in ''Shimmer'' tells the story by becoming each character in turn. The play takes place in 1956, in a harsh Midwestern juvenile detention center, where two boys befriend each other. To survive the brutal environment, the two create their own fantasy world, in which the movement of streams and breezes becomes a language that travels between dimensions, a language the boys call "shimmer." The two boys are eventually locked up, and they are ultimately forced to carefully plan and carry out an escape. Background O'Keefe wrote ''Shimmer'' after financial restrictions ended his plans for a five-actor play that had been commissioned, by American Inroads in San Francisco, in 1987. O'Keefe then asked if he could do a solo play, and the proposal ...

Shimmer Magazine
''Shimmer Magazine '' was a quarterly magazine which published speculative fiction, with a focus on material that is dark, humorous or strange. Established in June 2005, ''Shimmer'' was published in digest format and Portable Document Format (PDF) and was edited by Beth Wodzinski. ''Shimmer'' featured stories from award-winning authors Jay Lake and Ken Scholes; comic book artist Karl Kesel also contributed artwork. The magazine ceased publication with issue 46 published in November 2018. History In mid-April 2005, Beth Wodzinski began having "vague thoughts" about starting an on-line, downloadable zine. While worried that she wouldn't have much time to devote to such a project, she wanted to support authors who wrote the kind of stories she liked, and to reject authors who wrote "alright" instead of "all right." About a month later, Beth came up with the ideal name for her zine: "Shimmer." Beth then recruited a few on-line friends to help develop the magazine. J.L. Radle ...

Shimmer (Fuel Song)
"Shimmer" is a song by American alternative rock group Fuel. It was released in March 1998 as lead single from their debut album ''Sunburn''. Written by Carl Bell, the single peaked at number two on the ''Billboard'' Modern Rock Tracks charts, number 11 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, number 37 on the Adult Top 40 chart and at number 42 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Content Guitarist Carl Bell told a crowd on VH1 Storytellers that the song was inspired by an ex-girlfriend he had shortly after high school, who left him for another man she ended up marrying. A few years later, she called Bell, confiding her relationship woes in him, and he felt a range of emotions from hurting to helplessness that inspired the lyrics of "Shimmer". Critical reception Dan Snierson of ''Entertainment Weekly'' cited "Shimmer" as one of the "mellowest cuts" from its parent album, commenting that the song is a " Dave Matthews-ish ditty". ''Billboard'' wrote that "the best thing about 'Shimmer' ...

Shimmer (Notaker Song)
"Shimmer" is a song by American DJ and electronic music producer Notaker. Canadian record label Monstercat released it on February 6, 2017. The song was originally released as part of the compilation album ''Monstercat 030 – Finale'', released February 22, 2017. Background and release Notaker began the writing process for the song over Independence Day (United States), Independence Day weekend in 2016, producing the song without many setbacks, with the only exception being a 'shout' Sampling (music), sample that occurs alongside the Snare drum, snare throughout the song. In attempts to pitch-up the sample, the quality of said sample diminished. To solve this issue, Notaker simply pitched everything in the track down to match the sample, which he described as a "long and tedious solution to what seemed to be a simple problem." Notaker aimed to produce a song that could be set apart from his other works, with Shimmer being aimed to have a warm "feel good" sound to it, contrasting ...

Shimmer (Bitter Grace Album)
''Shimmer'' is New York City's Bitter Grace's long-awaited follow up to '' God and the Abyss''. While ''Shimmer'' did not take as long to release, seven years to the twelve it took to finish the previous, the band still underwent line-up changes through the period of recording and releasing this album, however not as severely. Both bassists recorded on this album have left the band, though one of the guitarists that has been recorded here eventually returned in late 2005 just prior to its release after a hiatus. The difference in sound between '' God and the Abyss'' and ''Shimmer'' is striking, with the new direction of the band adding more elements of electronic dance music and a generally dancier sound. Keyboards are more prominent than before and the sound is less garage-centric and more melodic. The album itself is not released yet. Some tracks have been available for a while online and two initial singles, "Shimmering" and "Slave", have been receiving college and Inter ...

Shimmer (Surgery Album)
''Shimmer'' is the second and final album by Surgery. It was released in 1994 through Atlantic Records. Due to the death of frontman Sean McDonnell nine months after the album's release, the band broke up. Critical reception ''The New York Times'' wrote that Surgery "operates in the low end of rock's frequency spectrum, bringing the bass to the center of their sound, rarely hitting the high strings on the guitar, and churning out music that values density over melody." ''The Washington Post'' deemed the album "unexceptional electric blues-rock." ''The Philadelphia Inquirer'' wrote that the band's "riffing and tandem vocals are a modern-rock reduction of Bachman-Turner Overdrive." Track listing Personnel ;Surgery *Scott Kleber – guitar *John Lachapelle – bass guitar *John Leamy – drums *Sean McDonnell – vocals ;Production and additional personnel *Billy Anderson – recording *Joe Barresi – mixing, recording *GGGarth – producti ...

Shimmer Women Athletes
Shimmer Women Athletes (often referred to and stylized as SHIMMER) is an American, Chicago-based independent women's professional wrestling promotion which held its first event on November 6, 2005. Established by Dave Prazak and run by both him and Allison Danger, the promotion was created to give female wrestling talent from North America and beyond a serious, non-objectifying platform on which to display their skills. The company takes a unique approach to staging its live events: Shimmer runs one large show every three months (on average) at the Eagles Club in Berwyn, Illinois. Two DVDs worth of material are taped at each of these super-shows, and are sold as single volumes—initially through Ring of Honor's online store, before being nationally distributed through retail outlets.
