Sherbrooke
Sherbrooke ( ; ) is a city in southern Quebec, Canada. It is at the confluence of the Saint-François and Magog rivers in the heart of the Estrie administrative region. Sherbrooke is also the name of a territory equivalent to a regional county municipality (TE) and census division (CD) of Quebec, coextensive with the city of Sherbrooke. With 172,950 residents at the Canada 2021 Census, It is the sixth largest city in the province and the 30th largest in Canada. The Sherbrooke Census Metropolitan Area had 227,398 inhabitants, making it the fourth largest metropolitan area in Quebec and 19th in Canada. Sherbrooke is the primary economic, political, cultural and institutional centre of Estrie, and was known as the ''Queen of the Eastern Townships'' at the beginning of the 20th century. Brompton, Quebec
Brompton is a borough of the city of Sherbrooke, Quebec. The borough comprises the former city of Bromptonville, which was amalgamated into the city of Sherbrooke on January 1, 2002. Prior to December 30, 1998, "Brompton" referred to a township municipality which occupied some of the territory of the modern-day borough of Brompton. Prior to June 12, 1996, the township municipality of Brompton and the city of Bromptonville were part of Le Val-Saint-François Regional County Municipality; on that date they both transferred to Sherbrooke Regional County Municipality (as it was then called). On December 30, 1998, the township municipality of Brompton merged into the city of Bromptonville. Sherbrooke City Council
The Sherbrooke City Council (in French: ''Conseil municipal de Sherbrooke'') is the governing body for the mayor–council government in the city of Sherbrooke, in the Estrie region of Quebec. The council consists of a mayor and 14 councillors. The councillors each sit both on the main city council and on separate borough councils, which serve a similar function for business that the city delegates to its boroughs instead of to the primary government. The city's smallest borough, Lennoxville, elects only a single representative to the main city council, and elects two representatives who serve ''only'' as borough councillors and do not sit on the main citywide body. Sherbrooke is a provincial electoral district in the Estrie region of Quebec, Canada. It comprises the Jacques-Cartier and Mont-Bellevue boroughs of the city of Sherbrooke. Rock Forest–Saint-Élie–Deauville
Rock Forest–Saint-Élie–Deauville is an ''arrondissement'', or borough, of the city of Sherbrooke, Quebec. The borough comprises the formerly independent cities of Rock Forest, Deauville and Saint-Élie-d'Orford, which were annexed into the city of Sherbrooke on January 1, 2002. The borough had a population of 35,500 in 2009. Government The borough is represented by four councillors on the Sherbrooke City Council. Communities Deauville had a census population of 3,394 in 2006. The population increased by 16.9 percent from 2001 to 2006. Rock Forest (2006 population 20,693) is located on the Magog River. Lennoxville, Quebec
Lennoxville is an ''arrondissement'', or borough, of the city of Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada. Lennoxville is located at the confluence of the St. Francis and Massawippi Rivers approximately five kilometres south of downtown Sherbrooke. Lennoxville had previously existed as an independent city until January 1, 2002, when the city of Lennoxville, along with several other formerly independent towns and cities in the region, were merged with the city of Sherbrooke. A demerger referendum held on June 20, 2004 failed to attract the required majority of votes to reestablish Lennoxville as an independent city.
