Santiago Island League (North) Premier Division
The Santiago Island League was a regional championship played in all of Santiago Island until 2002 when it was broken up into two present divisions, the North and the South zones, Cape Verde. It formed a part of the Santiago Regional Football Association (''Associação Regional de Futebol de Santiago, ARFS'') The winner of the championship had played in Cape Verdean football Championships of each season. The island league was one of the two oldest in Cape Verde. Until the 1960s, the league included clubs from the entire southern portion of Cape Verde and functioned as a regional league. From 2000 to 2002, it only contained a single match where as the champion of the South Zone competed with the North Zone and qualified into the National Championships. From 2002, it received separate qualification of the North and South Zones. Santiago (Portuguese for “ Saint James”) is the largest island of Cape Verde, its most important agricultural centre and home to half the nation's population. Part of the Sotavento Islands, it lies between the islands of Maio ( to the east) and Fogo ( to the west). The 2007 Cape Verdean Football Championship season was the 28th of the competition of the first-tier football in Cape Verde. Its started on 12 May and finished on 21 July, earlier than the last season. The tournament was organized by the Cape Verdean Football Federation. Sporting would win their 6th title and second straight after defeating Académica do Mindelo under the away goals rule, the only time it happened, the scorer was Dário who scored their only goal at the finals during stoppage time. 2015 Cape Verdean Football Championships
The 2015 Cape Verdean Football Championship season was the 36th beginner level competition of the first-tier football in Cape Verde. Its started on 9 May and finished on 11 July. The tournament was organized by the Cape Verdean Football Federation. The schedule including its matches were created on Saturday January 10. CS Mindelense won the eleventh title and became the second club after Sporting Praia to win three in a row. Neither clubs participated in the CAF Champions League competition in 2016 and in the 2016 CAF Confederation Cup. Grémio Nhagar
Grémio Desportivo de Nhagar, not often with an accented a as Nhágar is a football club that plays in the Premier division of the Santiago North Zone League in Cape Verde. It is based in the neighborhood of Nhàgar (whose name is of Guinean, Mandinka origin) in the city of Assomada in the middle of the island of Santiago and plays in the Cumbém Stadium (also known as Assomada Stadium) with a capacity that serves 5,000. Since the implementation of the two tier regional system in 2015, Grémio Nhágar are one of ten unrelegated clubs of northern Santiago. Grupo Desportivo Benfica de Santa Cruz, sometimes as Grupo Desportivo Benfica, is a professional football club that plays in the Santiago Island North League in Cape Verde. It is based in the town of Calheta de São Miguel in the island of Santiago and plays at Estádio Municipal 25 de Julho located northwest of the city center. The 2010 Cape Verdean Football Championship season was the 31st of the competition of the first-tier football in Cape Verde.
