Rail Transport In Guinea
Guinea has 1,086 km of railways. This includes 279 km at gauge and 807 km at gauge. The latter includes 662 km in common carrier service from Kankan to Conakry. Currently operating in Guinea three different railway companies: *Chemin de Fer de Guinée (ONCFG), * Chemins de Fer de la Compagnie des Bauxites de Guinée - Chemin de Fer de Conakry (CBG) and * Chemin de Fer Boké. The current status The state owned railway line from Conakry to Kankan In June 1959, the state-owned railway company ONCFG (Office National des Chemins de Fer de Guinée) was founded. The property of the former French colonial Conakry-Niger rail authority has been transferred to it. Into the following years all the rolling stock weren't maintained. Since 1993 with exception of fuel shipments to Mamou the rail traffic is suspended. Aluminum

Transport In Guinea
Transport in Guinea is composed by a variety of systems that people in the country use to get around as well as to and from domestic and international destinations. The railway from Conakry to Kankan ceased operating in the mid-1980s. Most vehicles in Guinea are 20+ years old, and cabs are any four-door vehicle which the owner has designated as being for hire. Domestic air services are intermittent. Conakry International Airport is the largest airport in the country, with flights to other cities in Africa as well as to Europe. Locals, nearly entirely without vehicles of their own, rely upon these taxis (which charge per seat) and small buses to take them around town and across the country. Matakong
Matakong is an island just off the coast of Guinea between the capital Conakry and the Sierra Leone border. Nomenclature Matakong is also called Matakan. Transport Matakong is the proposed port terminus of the heavy duty standard gauge Trans-Guinean Railway, aimed at transporting large iron and bauxite deposits to the coast, notably from the mines at Simandou, 650km west. The proposed Bellzone iron ore mine at Kalia may also share this railway line. New port A new deep water port is needed because, firstly, the port at Conakry is built out and there is no room, and secondly, because a new port at Matakong has better access though flatter ground to the hinterland. Simandou
Simandou is a range of hills located in the Nzérékoré and Kankan regions of southeastern Guinea, in the country's mountainous, forested ''Guinée Forestière'' region. At the southern end of the range the site of a large iron ore deposit is currently being developed. Geography The Simandou Range extends north and south, it is located east of Banankoro and Kérouané, from southern Kankan Region into northern Nzérékoré Region. The highest point is Pic de Fon, elevation , in the southern portion of the range. Iron ores are rocks and minerals from which metallic iron can be economically extracted.
