Radiópolis
Radiópolis (incorporated as Sistemas Radiópolis, S.A. de C.V.) is a Mexican radio broadcast company that owns AM radio, AM and FM radio stations in Mexico and syndicates music and talk formats. It is the former radio division of Televisa, which spun its stake off to Corporativo Coral, S.A. de C.V., in 2020 to focus on its core television and telecommunications businesses. Since 2001, Televisa Radio (now Radiópolis) has been a joint venture with Spanish media conglomerate Grupo PRISA. History Radiópolis got its start with the establishment of each of the Mexico City stations in the 1930s and 1940s. XEW-AM, founded by Emilio Azcárraga Vidaurreta, came on air September 18, 1930 and immediately became the country's most important broadcaster. XEQ-AM was established eight years later, and in 1947, XEX-AM joined the stable. XELT-AM
XELT-AM is a radio station on 920 kHz in Guadalajara, Jalisco. It is known as Radio María and carries a Catholic religious format. The station's concession is held by Televisa Radio, Radiópolis, but the station is operated by Fundación Cultural para la Sociedad Mexicana, Fundación Cultural para la Sociedad Mexicana, A.C., the organization that owns all Radio María stations in Mexico. Radio María Mexico has its studios and national headquarters in Zapopan. History XELT signed on April 27, 1944, on 840 kHz, owned by J. H. Tostado Lomelí. It was later acquired by the Radio Comerciales group, making it sister to XEAD, XEHL, XEJE and XEBA. In 1987, Radio Comerciales split in two; Francisco Javier Díaz Romo picked up XEZZ, XELT, XEBA-AM-FM and XEHL-AM-FM and operated them as Radio Comerciales de Jalisco. XEHL-FM
XEHL-FM is a radio station on 102.7 FM in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. The station is owned by Radiópolis and carries its Los 40 format. History XEHL-FM received its first concession on April 2, 1969. It was the sister FM to XEHL-AM 1010 and was known as Sonido 103. XHEWA-FM/XEWA-AM are commercial radio stations in San Luis Potosí City, San Luis Potosí, Mexico. XEWA broadcasts on 540 AM and is a Class A station. Its transmitter is in Soledad de Graciano Sánchez. XEWA is one of the highest powered radio stations in North America, broadcasting at 150,000 watts, using a directional antenna by day and a non-directional antenna at night. 540 AM is a Mexican and Canadian clear-channel frequency. XHEWA broadcasts on 103.9 FM, with an effective radiated power (ERP) of 25,000 watts. Its tower is also in Soledad de Graciano Sánchez. The two stations are owned by Radiópolis. XEQ-AM
XEQ-AM (940 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station in Mexico City. The concession is held by Cadena Radiodifusora Mexicana, S.A. de C.V. and is operated by Radiópolis. It airs a Spanish-language adult hits radio format known as "La Q 940." XEQ is a Class A, clear-channel station, powered at 30,000 watts. The other Class A station on 940 AM is in Montreal, far enough away that XEQ does not need to use a directional antenna to avoid interference. XEX-AM (730 kHz) is a commercial AM radio station based in Mexico City, Mexico. It carries a sports radio format known as "W Deportes." The station is owned by Radiópolis. XEX is a Class A clear-channel station, powered at 60 kilowatts and using a non-directional antenna. The transmitter is on Avenida Rio Bravo, in Los Reyes Acaquilpan, just east of Mexico City. History XEX-AM came to air in 1947 as a 500,000 watt national radio station. The Mexican government built XEX with the transmitter equipment of the former XERA at Villa Acuña, Coahuila, whose 500 kW transmitter was seized, dismantled and shipped to Mexico City.
